great story
Revisado: 09-10-21
If you like high action urban fantasy involving devils and demons, along with sappy romance (ALMOST insta-love) with an agonizing back and forth of misunderstandings between love interests, you'll really enjoy this! I struggled a bit to get through it because of the constant misunderstandings. the mc is really immature. but she shows promise for growth throughout the series, and I'll probably pick up the 2nd.

thoroughly enjoyable

my 7yo: Arlo can do stuff other people can't do, like tie a "slipknot". it's fascinating because of the magical creatures.
we hope there's another book!

I really liked it! -Age 6
Revisado: 10-15-18
We listened as a family with my oldest son who is 6. He loved it!
"I really liked it. All the monsters, even the one with 20 legs, the crab spiders, were EPIC."
My younger girls liked how the dog ran away from the monsters and his on the ship.
As a mom I felt this book was intelligent and engaging. A good read!

Underdeveloped
Revisado: 08-05-18
The most praise I can give this book is that the concept is creative and the writing is in understandable, well-organized English. Otherwise, I found the main character to be completely unrelatable. I encountered nearly every possible stereotype available in fantasy novels just in the first chapter. I couldn't bring myself to finish the book due to immature plot and characterization. This book would greatly benefit from a thorough developmental edit to improve the delivery of the plot and deepen the characters and their motivations.
The narration was so-so, with inconsistent accents and distracting voices for main characters.
