Good but flawed.
Revisado: 11-21-22
It's definitely a manga-style story and I liked it a lot. That said, there are a few places in every book where the narration is interrupted by a piece of dialog being repeated due to editing flaws.
It's fairly easy to move past, but I found it annoying.

Historia
What drives our political and moral beliefs? What makes us like some things and dislike others? What shapes how we behave, and misbehave, in a group? What makes you, you? For centuries, philosophers and scholars have described human behaviour in terms of sex, power and money. In The Status Game, best-selling author Will Storr radically turns this thinking on its head by arguing that it is our irrepressible craving for status that ultimately defines who we are.

In Hunt, Gather, Parent, Doucleff sets out with her three-year-old daughter in tow to learn and practice parenting strategies from families in three of the world’s most venerable communities: Maya families in Mexico, Inuit families above the Arctic Circle, and Hadzabe families in Tanzania. She sees that these cultures don’t have the same problems with children that Western parents do.

Skip. The. Prolog.
Revisado: 01-24-22
I'm in the middle of listening to this book, but I wanted to write this before I got too far into the book to remember it - because I'm already trying to put it out of my mind so as not to judge the rest of the book by it.
The prolog repeats roughly the same information and theme at least 3 times in slightly different words. It invoked 26 minutes of thinking, "get on with it!" and made me want to stop listening for fear that the rest of the book would be as repetitive.

Informative and Affirming
Revisado: 10-31-21
Having been a secular activist I found reading both White Fragility and How to be an Anti-Racist to be no different than reading religious apologetics. Something about both books smacked of pedantic religiosity and I've been trying to articulate that opinion ever since. This book is that articulation and I found it both enlightening and comforting to know that I'm not alone.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

The religion of anti-racism
Revisado: 11-22-20
While listening to this book, I couldn't escape the feeling that I was being preached to by an evangelical Christian.
It starts off by more or less forgiving all white people for being inherently racist - the same way that evangelicals preach that all people are inherently sinful but are or can-be forgiven through/by Jesus.
It goes on to describe the many ways/reasons that they must (continually and in a neverending way) earn that forgiveness by accepting their racist nature and engaging in anti-racist practices including preaching the good word to other white people - which to me is no different from the rest of the evangelical Christian tactic to get people to spread the "good word" that we are created sick and commanded to be well.
The book even sets up an unfalsifiable cannon in that any objection to the book's assertions or even any thought to the contrary is confirmation that the objection or thinker is racist.
My review of the book is in no way a denial that racism exists or even that I have some sort of racial bias. Some of the ideas is this book are quite good just like there are some passages in the Bible that are beautiful and ring true.
I'm merely trying to point out what I think should be obvious to anyone who reads the book. The visceral negative reactions to the author's way of thinking might have much less to do with the idea that all white people are racist and probably more to do with the unfalsifiable and inescapable nature that the author asserts exists:
You (a white person) will always be racist unless you become (the author's sect of) anti-racist.

Historia
According to Whyte, we humans are involved not just with one marriage with a significant other. We also have made secret vows to our work and unspoken vows to an inner, constantly developing self. Whyte's thesis is that to separate these marriages in order to balance them is to destroy the fabric of happiness itself; that in each of these marriages, will, effort, and hard work are overused, overrated, and in many ways self-defeating.

Historia
Explore the power of the underdog in Malcolm Gladwell's dazzling examination of success, motivation, and the role of adversity in shaping our lives, from the best-selling author of The Bomber Mafia. Three thousand years ago on a battlefield in ancient Palestine, a shepherd boy felled a mighty warrior with nothing more than a stone and a sling, and ever since then the names of David and Goliath have stood for battles between underdogs and giants. David's victory was improbable and miraculous. He shouldn't have won. Or should he have?

Overall this is a great course to listen to and well worth the time and money. I think this was recorded in 2011 and in 2011 it was definitely up to date. A few things have changed since this was recorded and some (I'd say maybe 3%) of the info should be updated.

Ever noticed that trying to calm down often produces more agitation? Or that real fulfillment can be elusive, despite living a successful life? Often, such difficulties stem from the human brain's hardwired tendency to seek pleasure and avoid pain. Modern science demonstrates that this survival mechanism served the needs of our earliest ancestors, but is at the root of many problems that we face today, such as depression, compulsive and addictive behaviors, chronic pain, and stress and anxiety.

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.
