A clear disclosure
Revisado: 12-13-23
As Renee told her story – talked about herself – she provided tools for me to better connect. Her authenticity resonates with my soul. I first heard Brene on TED TALKS so with this audible book, I mentally visualize her on stage as I listen to her voice. I liked the effect.

What I didn’t like occurs with many speakers: the use of “colorful words.“ Those words can be labeled curse, foul, swear, cuss, or barnyard. I just think they’re inappropriate in public places or an audible book.

Tragedy turns lives around
Revisado: 10-08-23
Gresham hooked me at the very beginning. The subplots maintained my interest. The reality possibility satisfied my own need to exercise compassion to the less fortunate. The retiring lawyer could fulfill a dream. The insight into The plight of addiction, homelessness, and hopelessness And subsequent red tape is not imaginary. Thanks for the slam on romance via career then the selfless interaction of a man and woman with an addict. Love the elements of this story. As well as the narrator.

Foreshadowing is subtle.
Revisado: 06-11-23
Whitlow deftly weaves scripture into daily interactions which provides the reader with insight into the lifestyle of commuted Christians. I doubt that Alana’s paranoia/bipolar features could have been done differently. I recommend Whitlow’s books to readers who want a clean mystery with spiritual content.

Historia
Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

Detail and secrets and truth
Revisado: 08-10-22
If I had any dislikes it would be for details: Grisham uses lots of details but…
Details are what makes the scenes effective. Grisham has deftly pulled the reader into the plot and the lives of the characters. Therefore I appreciate the details.
Michael Beck does a great job of reading/narrating.
As any author should, Gresham used facts to create his story. By personifying the facts, readers – at least this reader – learned parts of history that have been hidden for years.
I have three reasons that this story grips my heart. One is that my father was in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The other two reasons are because of books.
In DAYS OF ANGUISH, DAYS OF HOPE Bill Keith helped Chaplain, Major General, USAF Robert Preston Taylor tell his POW story of the Bataan Death March.
In TWICE FORGOTTEN, John F. Kidd, Chief Petty Officer, United States Navy, helped by historian, Irwin C. Winkel, II, shares how as a POW he experienced inhuman treatment.
Taylor and Kidd could be the foundation for the character of Pete Banning.
Do you suppose that they were in the same line of men “marching” for days without adequate food and water, enduring the same diseases, anger, and disbelief?
The takeaway: tell the truth? Tell a little white lie? Consequences are profound, painful, and sometimes predictable. Grisham pierces the heart with his point.
Allthree books should be in every educational institution and should be mandatory reading for every student.
If a person does not know the past, will the person then repeat the atrocities?

Historia
“Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County, the fictional setting of many of John Grisham’s unforgettable stories. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. He’s called upon to help an old friend, Mack Stafford, a former lawyer in Clanton, who three years earlier became a local legend when he stole money from his clients, divorced his wife, filed for bankruptcy, and left his family in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again—until now. Now Mack is back, and he’s leaning on his old pals, Jake and Harry Rex, to help him return. His homecoming does not go as planned.

Home again followed by intricate intrigue followed by dissension.
Revisado: 08-08-22
Jake guides rather than represents a friend. I should have guessed the ending.
A 29 year old prisoner’s sense of humor and persuasive ability gives him opportunity to see an orange moon. Anything else? This intricate intriguing tale has delightful detail but you’ll never guess the ending.
A family led by A dishonest father produces bickering Irish twins who have their own surprise ending.

I have over 100 Louis L’Amour audiobooks. I love everyone of them.
Each one is read by different readers, some better than others of course.
But all stories are excellent. Thanks

Johannes Verne was soon to be rescued by outlaws, but no one could save him from the lasting memory of his grandfather’s eyes, full of impenetrable hatred. Raised in part by Indians, then befriended by a mysterious woman, Johannes grew up to become a rugged adventurer and an educated man. The Lonesome Gods
Revisado: 06-24-17
Johannas' father becomes ill while the mother/wife is dying. Johannes, at six, is taken to California to his maternal grandfather who wants father and son dead. I'd guess that L'amour formulated the end then wrote this narrative full of historical detail and nuisances of various cultures. The reader can learn survival techniques of desert and mountains as the wagon train leaves the east and reaches California and again as Johannas is chased. Johannes love of books provides a mystery; is a gentleman who wins the heart of two women; who is surprised to learn he might inherit -- whoops -- you have to read to discover why and who is the monster and if there is a wedding. I enjoyed the 15 hours 4 minutes of story.
