Historia
The murder of Abraham Lincoln set off the greatest manhunt in American history. From April 14 to April 26, 1865, the assassin, John Wilkes Booth, led Union cavalry and detectives on a wild 12-day chase through the streets of Washington, DC, across the swamps of Maryland, and into the forests of Virginia while the nation, still reeling from the just-ended Civil War, watched in horror and sadness.

Perfection 👌
Revisado: 04-10-25
I'm obsessed with this author!! I have a couple of his other books, and I adore them all. He tells history in story form, and knows how to keep your attention!!
The narrator was incredible!! He used differing voices to differentiate between the characters, which was so helpful. His voice was steady, and maintained my attention well. 10/10!!!

Historia
There are very few national relationships quite as complicated and enigmatic as the one that exists between the English and the Irish. For two peoples so interconnected by geography and history, the depth of animosity that is often expressed is difficult at times to understand. Famine and Rebellion: The History of Ireland Under the British Empire in the 19th Century analyzes the tumultuous events that marked Irish history during British rule in the 19th century. From this audiobook, you will learn about Ireland in the 19th century like never before.

History was accurate, but glossed over
Revisado: 03-27-24
I feel like there was quite a bit of bias and glossing over to this depiction of the Great Irish Famine. Although the facts were told, I think due to an attempt at brevity they chose to delete important facts.

Historia
The Settlers' Empire traces the first federal endeavor to build states wholesale out of the Northwest Territory, a process that relied on overlapping colonial rule over Euro-American settlers and the multiple Indian nations in the territory. In the Northwest Territory, diverse populations of newcomers and natives struggled over the region's geographical and cultural definition in areas such as religion, marriage, family, gender roles, and economy.

Dense, but important. narrator not my favorite
Revisado: 09-15-23
I had to speed up the narration to 1.10 because the man was just plodding along. I think this work could use a much better reader. As a work, this book adds a lot to the table with regard to settler colonialism and manifest destiny. The Old Northwest is not so trodden a topic, and the author brings in it's importance to the table.

Historia
In 1508, despite strong advice to the contrary, the powerful Pope Julius II commissioned Michelangelo Buonarroti to paint the ceiling of the newly restored Sistine Chapel in Rome. During the four extraordinary years that Michelangelo spent laboring over the ceiling, power politics and personal rivalries swirled around him. He battled ill health, financial and family difficulties, inadequate knowledge of the art of fresco, and the Pope's impatience - a history that is more compelling than most novels.

Historia
Set during the Reign of Terror following the start of the French Revolution... The title character represents the original "hero with a secret identity" that inspired subsequent literary creations such as Don Diego de la Vega (El Zorro) and Bruce Wayne (the Batman). The popularity of the novel encouraged Orczy to write a number of sequels for her "reckless daredevil" over the next 35 years. The original play was performed to great acclaim in France, Italy, Germany, and Spain, while the novel was translated into 16 languages.

I loved the narration
Revisado: 07-09-20
I believe the narrator was very attentive to pronunciation and accent overall. I did notice she pronounced Louis as an American would, however everything else was great to me:). Very entertaining and I couldn't put it down!

Historia
Until about 1800, the West and the Islamic realm were like two adjacent, parallel universes, each assuming itself to be the center of the world while ignoring the other. As Europeans colonized the globe, the two world histories intersected and the Western narrative drove the other one under. The West hardly noticed, but the Islamic world found the encounter profoundly disrupting.
