Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

A must !!!!
Revisado: 10-10-10
This is such a well done audible that I could not stop listening. Typically I listen on my iPod during my commute, but I had to bring it in the house to keep listening. The story was excellent, the voices... they acted the lines, in such convincing voices to tell such a compelling story !!! Very well done

Historia
Like the small towns J. California Cooper has so vividly portrayed in her previous novels and story collections, Wideland, Oklahoma, is home to ordinary Americans struggling to raise families, eke out a living, and fulfill their dreams. In the early 20th century, Irene and Val fall in love in Wideland. While carving out a home for themselves, they also allow neighbors Bertha and Joseph to build a house and live on their land.

I was disappointed
Revisado: 10-06-10
I was so excited when one of J. California Cooper's book appeared on Audible. I couldn't wait to listen to what I thought would be another great deeply moving piece. I was sadly disappointed.
First, it was entirely too long and drawn out. By the time the two main characters got together, I was exhausted.
Secondly, the story was trying to portray a family in a place over a long period of time. The author used dialogue to do much of this, that seemed contrived.
Lastly, the ending was like reading a page torn out of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.
I would not recommend this one.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

Even before the Beatles hit the big time, a myth was created. This version of the Beatles legend smoothed the rough edges and filled in the fault lines, and for more than forty years this manicured version of the Beatles story has sustained as truth, until now.

This audio was very well done. This audible tells a version of the Beatles' story which explains the genesis, the genius and the genocide of the group and the interpersonal dynamics. If you idolized John as your favorite Beatle, this account may have you reconsider. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and highly recommend it.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A masterpiece like none other, Brooks’ powerful performance of Haley’s words has been known to leave listeners in tears. It begins with a birth in an African village in 1750, and ends two centuries later at a funeral in Arkansas. And in that time span, an unforgettable cast of men, women, and children come to life, many of them based on the people from Alex Haley's own family tree.

Historia
First published in 1886, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, is a psychological fable for our time. It draws on intuitive knowledge of the nasty complications of the human mind (which Shakespeare used so well in his tragedies). Here, Sir Laurence Olivier unfolds the story as precisely and pedantically as it was written.

Historia
In the autumn of 1976, when Stevie Wonder unveiled Songs in the Key of Life to the world, it was immediately apparent that this was an album of considerable genius and undeniable scope: a double album with a bonus EP, no less, written and recorded by a superstar who had challenged himself to somehow squeeze life itself onto those vinyl grooves. Here, Zeth Lundy tells the compelling story of the album's background, creation and enduring influence.

Revisado: 02-04-09
This author had a WONDERFUL topic that he destroyed with too many words. Please redo this after reading Stunk and White's Elements of Style.Additionally, this author did not recognize that Stevie Wonder's audience loves him for his ability to say so much, so well, so succinctly. Don't even try this one.

This book really is not a Crystal Stair
Revisado: 02-04-09
This book had great appeal initially, but developed into a trite and predictable story. The abridged version was choppy, particularly at the end when you realize that the daughter goes from elementary school to Stanford in 1 chapter.

Historia
In July 2004, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic National Convention with an address that spoke to Americans across the political spectrum. Now, in The Audacity of Hope, Senator Obama calls for a different brand of politics: a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the "endless clash of armies" we see in Congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of "our improbable experiment in democracy".
