Historia
Homicide Detective Max Rupert never fully accepted his wife's death, even when he believed that a reckless hit and run driver was the cause. But when he learns that in fact she was murdered, he devotes himself to hunting down her killers. Most of his life he had thought of himself as a decent man. But now he's so consumed with thoughts of retribution that he questions whether he will take that last step and enact the vengeance he longs for.

Max’s Back Story
Revisado: 05-05-25
The narrator watched too many old Dragnet episodes. He sounds like Jack Webb - ultra stoic. It would have been good to have someone strong, yet with some inflections. I like Nikki - good strong female lead. The scene with Mikael was way too drawn out. I like that the characters do not slip into caricutures as sometimes happens in serials.

Historia
Sami Kierce, a young college grad backpacking in Spain with friends, wakes up one morning, covered in blood. There’s a knife in his hand. Beside him, the body of his girlfriend. Anna. Dead. He doesn’t know what happened. His screams drown out his thoughts—and then he runs. Twenty-two years later, Kierce, now a private investigator, is a new father who’s working off his debts by doing low level surveillance jobs and teaching wannabe sleuths at a night school in New York City. One evening, he recognizes a familiar face at the back of the classroom. Anna.

Twists & turns
Revisado: 04-19-25
Love Molly and the Pink Panthers. Raymond is a great character. Story was good, but seemed a bit drug out. Not sure how some of the side stories fit. And, I grew weary with some of the redundant cliches. Overall, the story was good. Performances excellent.

Historia
Ari Thór Arason is a local policeman whose tumultuous past and uneasy relationships with the villagers in an idyllically quiet fishing village in Northern Iceland - where no one locks their doors - continue to haunt him. The peace of this close-knit community is shattered by the murder of a policeman - shot at point-blank range in the dead of night in a deserted house. With a killer on the loose and the dark Arctic winter closing in, it falls to Ari Thór to piece together a puzzle that involves tangled local politics, a compromised new mayor, and a psychiatric ward.

Ari Grows As A Character - Let’s Develop Him More!
Revisado: 04-01-25
His wife. She has been in my last nerve since book one. Tomas seems to have regressed back to being Ari’s boss. I see this as problematic in the future. I thought the twins and the elderly lady were unneeded distractions. The Deputy Mayor needs to get better at picking men.

Historia
Hana Babic is a quiet middle-aged librarian in Minnesota who wants nothing more than to be left alone. But when a detective arrives with the news that her best friend has been murdered, Hana knows that something evil has come for her, a dark remnant of the past she and her friend had shared. Thirty years before, Hana was someone else: Nura Divjak, a teenager growing up in the mountains of war-torn Bosnia—until Serbian soldiers arrived to slaughter her entire family before her eyes. The events of that day thrust Nura into the war, leading her to join a band of militia fighters.

Powerful Modern History So Relevant Today
Revisado: 03-30-25
Narrator & story were great. My minor dislike - the romance was predictable and the ending was (mostly) unsurprising although there was a twist that was not believable.

Multiple Generational Mystery by
Revisado: 03-26-25
The whodunnit & romance predictable. I liked that the main female character was Chinese, American & Irish. Her love of books was totally captured. The BIL was a stereotype. The Aunt too was fairly routine. I liked the inspector. Aidan was okay but I found his persistent bickering with his sister tedious. Would have enjoyed more character development of Penelope and Winthrop. I think they would have interesting stories. The historical characters were interesting although we never really knew James, James 2 or Killian. Jenny and Lily were great. Great strong women characters - much appreciated in these misogynistic times.

Interesting
Revisado: 03-07-25
As a rule, I don't like the romance interjection in suspense novels and could have done without it here. The story was predictable, and some of the characters were majorly flawed. But, the suspense of the beginning did create momentum to continue listening. Also, this narrator was considerably better than previous Eskers books. I do like the way the series is unfolding.

The narrator made think of Bob Woodward. I just kept seeing him as the main character. The long drawn out voice was not the best to keep one’s attention. On the other hand, I am appreciating this series. Just use better narrators.

Plot Good, But Thin In Spots. Narrator’s voice was distracting.
Revisado: 02-22-25
The plot was pretty good but thin in a few places. I had much of it figured out by the end, but not all of it. But….Who WAS screaming in Brady’s apartment? What happened to Marjorie in school when Nora wasn’t there to help her? The baby angle was really weak. And so forth. And, I agree with others…the narrator’s voice was tough to listen to in the beginning. I don’t know if she relaxed or I got used to it, but her voice did sound better as the story progressed.
