Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Not all is as it seems

I wouldn’t have known Jeanette McCurdy without having watched Sam and Cat with my kids. I would have never known all that was happening beneath the surface without listening to this audiobook. What a beautifully written book about the complexities of life in general. Of the awkwardness of being a teenager, of growing up in the spotlight thru such awkwardness. What a beautiful, complex and tragic story of the abuse suffered at her mother’s hand. Abuse that was so shrouded in love that it was never recognized as abuse. The strength it takes to become a functioning adult thru trauma is astounding. Kudos to you, Ms. McCurdy. All the best to you and your siblings.

Historia
When my eyes are closed, the monster can't see me. When I sing a song in my head, the monster can't hear me. When I pretend my bedroom is a playground where I play hide-and-seek, the monster can't find me. The darkness should frighten me. I should worry I'll find more monsters...monsters scarier than him. But I'm not afraid.

Anyone who wants to get lost in a story should read or listen to this book. But heed the advice of so many before you….go into it blind. All of your questions will be answered as the story blooms and grows about halfway thru. Although, it’s Sometimes emotionally difficult to listen; it’s ultimately a beautiful mix of self love and the love of another human that emerges from ashes.
