Decent Writing, Distractingly Bad American Accents
Revisado: 03-16-25
Wanted to enjoy, and I really tried, listening to 3 books & starting a 4th. the stories themselves are okay; I just couldn't get past the appallingly bad American accents.

Depressing

An uninspiring, fatalistic story. Nothing to admire or aspire to. Just a downer. Not for me.

Her estranged father, the local medical examiner, has had a massive heart attack. At the hospital, she finds her father in near total denial of the seriousness of his condition. He insists that the best thing Emily can do to help him is to take on the autopsy of a senator's teen daughter whose sudden, unexplained death has just rocked the sleepy town.

Potential there to be better
Revisado: 09-24-23
Decent idea. A bit contrived here & there. Some annoying mispronunciations by the narrator a few glaring grammatical errors by the author.

Good Story; Distractingly Repetitive Cadence
Revisado: 07-09-21
I enjoyed the story a lot, but I struggled with the narration. The reader ends her sentences (as the narrator) with a repetitive cadence that was difficult to ignore. I found it annoyingly distracting, and almost stopped listening to the book because of it. (I actually did stop with another book she read.) It’s unfortunate, because when she read as the various characters, I liked her. It was just the narration that drove me to distraction. Luckily, there was enough dialogue—and the story was engaging enough—that I was able to finish the book.

Changed Narrator
Revisado: 06-08-21
Very good story. However, I really enjoyed the narrator for Book 1. This narrator is good, too, but when you get to know characters through one reader’s interpretation and really like them, it’s disconcerting to hear them presented differently. Not badly, just ... not consistent with the character you’ve come to know.

Repetitive Cadence of Reader Did Me In
Revisado: 05-19-20
I didn’t finish the audiobook. In fact, I didn’t make it through the first chapter. The story may be excellent, but I was listening to it, and the annoyingly repetitive cadence of the reader was more than I could take. It’s a shame, because I really enjoyed her brogue when she’d read as the Irish characters. It was the narration that did me in. Every single phrase sounded exactly the same. I’m a theatre teacher, and I just couldn’t take it.
