Historia
Like many doctors and nutrition experts, bestselling author Dr. Steven Gundry has long endorsed the ketogenic diet—a style of eating that heavily restricts carbohydrate intake to make the body burn fat for fuel. Because ketosis offers a variety of health benefits, including weight loss, reduced risk of illness, and enhanced energy, Dr. Gundry believed his patients’ efforts to adhere to the challenging regimen was worthwhile. That is, until his research uncovered a shocking truth: We’ve gotten keto all wrong.

Seems like he just wants to irritate the system- not deliver real science. He is so condescending that I couldn’t finish the book.

Very insightful
Revisado: 04-23-24
There was a lot to digest in parts of this book and I found it extremely applicable to my personal life, my work as a teacher and my experience as a parent. Magness has a lot to contribute to the field of psychology.
He synthesizes good work in the field well (though he does not often cite his work by name which I prefer when listening to an audiobook). He can be repetitive in a few sections, but that is my only real criticism- I was very engaged throughout the book and I learned a lot! (I’ll probably buy a hard copy now so I can reference sections of it!)

Historia
Christmas is the single biggest annual event on the planet, a time for merry-making, over-indulgence, peace, goodwill, and the occasional family row. It’s as comfortable and familiar as a pair of old shoes and yet still glittery and exciting. But what do you really know about it? It’s stuffed full of traditions and rituals that most of us have been observing all our lives without having the slightest idea of where they come from.

Engaging but made me lonely
Revisado: 12-04-22
Sara’s wit and insightful commentary are a welcome reprieve from the rather dry and austere medical books about bipolar 2. At first, I was excited about the book, feeling that I would be able to relate to the author’s experience. However, by the middle of the book, I realized that the realistic opportunity to have dozens of friends and family at the ready to take care of basic needs during a brainstorm is very unlikely. It’s not my experience at all. And such, it made me feel more frustrated and alone in my own disease. I hope that many people have the same experience as Sara, but I fear most in this country do not.

Better for people who aren’t sure about bipolar
Revisado: 12-02-22
This book spends a LONG time talking about diagnosis. If you are unsure whether you have bipolar, it could be very helpful. But if you have been diagnosed or are pretty sure already, it’s a while before the book gets to anything really useful for you. And the sections that do have helpful information are really short in comparison. The author’s style of writing and delivery are charming and engaging, but I don’t think I was the target audience for the information presented.

Historia
Now, most people have heard of ADHD and know someone who may have it. But lost in the discussion of both childhood and adult diagnosis of ADHD is the potential upside: Many hugely successful entrepreneurs and highly creative people attribute their achievements to ADHD. Also unknown to most are the recent research developments, including innovations that give a clearer understanding of the ADHD brain in action.

Started an ADHD support group because of this book!
Revisado: 11-29-22
As a mom of a teenager with ADHD and as a special education teacher mentoring dozens of students with ADHD every year, I was so inspired by this book. I loved it so much, I bought several copies and gave them out to people who I thought would benefit! I also started an ADHD support group at my high school and used this book as a framework.

Humans are social creatures: In this simple and obvious fact lies both the problem and the solution to the current crisis of loneliness. In his groundbreaking audiobook, the 19th surgeon general of the United States Dr. Vivek Murthy makes a case for loneliness as a public health concern: a root cause and contributor to many of the epidemics sweeping the world today from alcohol and drug addiction to violence to depression and anxiety.

Excellent insight into loneliness
Revisado: 11-27-22
I was very inspired by this book. Dr. Murthy highlights a pervasive pattern of isolation in our culture that robs people of meaning, purpose and joy. He gives excellent suggestions on how to heal from that pattern and reclaim the health that connectedness can bring.
