Such a Disappointment

I've loved all of the Gray Man books, and then I listened to this dud. Such a nothing story. Way too long, and boring. Pass this one by.

If your only experience with "The Jungle Book", is the Disney movie by the same name, you are missing so much of the story. Listen to this tale, narrated so beautifully, and experience the master story telling skills of Rudyard Kipling!!

I kept waiting for a real story to develop. Now with 4 hours remaining, I've given up. The plot had potential, but ...... it's just a lot of nothingness. Unbelievably boring.

Wow! Great story!

I recently discovered author Bobby Cole when I read the first Jake Crosby book, The Dummy Line. Moon Underfoot is the second one. Bobby Cole is a very talented writer, both books had me spellbound and wanting more. I highly recommend this book. Now, onto the third book, Old Money.

I LOVED IT!

My 90 year old father died this year, and this book was therapy for me. The story is that of a 90 year old man, and his remembrance of his life when he had joined up with the circus. The story skillfully moves back and forth between his current life in a nursing home, and his life in the circus, where he was a young veterinarIan. Excitement, love, skullduggery! Masterfully written! It will leave you with a smile on your face. I highly recommend this book.

This is author Garret Holms' first novel, he is also a judge and criminal trial expert. Robert Martinez performs an amazing narration. I've added him to my list of favorite narrators. This is a wonderful book, and I highly recommend it.

Amazing Writer - An amazing book

I don't often write full reviews of the Audible books that I listen to, but this book is the 3rd in the Ripper series and it is great. Each book builds on the previous one, and I recommend starting with the first and reading through them all. Richard Phillips fully develops his characters and story line. He has an advanced talent in story telling. Highly recommend this book and the previous two in this series. Enjoy!

Disappointed

What disappointed you about The Walking Drum?

The book is much too long with Louis L'Amour wanting to share every historical fact he knew about the 12th century societies that his story hero, Kerbouchard encounters. There is much repetition of a common theme (the glory and enlightenment of Islamic calaphates). The storyline held promise, but never delivered.

I would like to first state that I have been a long time fan of Louis L'Amour. Forty years ago, as a young man, I sought to read every book in the Sackett series. It was L'Amour's superb writing that kept me wanting more. I had high expectations for "The Walking Drum"; but now that I've finished the 16.5 hour novel, I realize it will be a long while before I listen to the remaining unread L'Amour audio book in my Audio library.
