Hard to finish
Revisado: 10-14-24
This book was more to be endured than enjoyed. I did finish, but the bad guys were unbelievably bad and the good guys (and girls) were pretty formulaic characters. Some scenes just made me squirm. The narrator, however, did a nice job.

Historia
When Detective Rebecca North left her rural hometown, she vowed never to return. Her father’s apparent suicide has changed that. The official report is that retired cop Noah North shot himself, knocked over a lantern, and set his isolated cabin ablaze. But Rebecca cannot believe he killed himself. To prove it, she needs the help of Ash Haugen, the man she left behind. But Rebecca and Ash share more than broken hearts. Something darker lies between them, and the investigation is stirring it back to life.

Well constructed story
Revisado: 06-29-24
You really get a sense of the locale and the characters are interesting and believable. I have read a couple of her books and find they straddle the line between thriller and romance. The combination doesn’t always work, and the author uses too much body language throughout. Beating hearts, heaving chests, dizziness, numbness— they are there almost ad nauseum. I just wish she could tame that stuff down. A lot.

Is this a thriller or a romance novel?
Revisado: 01-13-23
This is the second book by this author I have listened to on Audible. Both books were to me an odd combination of mystery thriller and romance novel, with lots of heaving breasts and other internal feelings of the main characters way over-emphasized. At times I found this very annoying. The plot of ‘In the Waning Light’ was fairly conventional for the genre. I probably won’t choose a book by this author again.

Historia
Once a hotshot investigative reporter, Jack Tagger now bangs out obituaries for a South Florida daily, "plotting to resurrect my newspaper career by yoking my byline to some famous stiff". Jimmy Stoma, the infamous front man of Jimmy and the Slut Puppies, dead in a fishy-smelling scuba "accident", might be the stiff of Jack’s dreams - if only he can figure out what happened.

Too wordy
Revisado: 05-23-21
Carl Hiassen, based on some of his earlier novels, is a favorite of mine. Unfortunately, this one just seemed to drag, and a lot of the humor seemed forced. He has certaimly done better.
