An Endless Parade of Supernatural Characters
Revisado: 02-25-19
This book was a blast. Our main character, Junipher, is tough and powerful, and doesn't put up with any shenanigans from others. It seems like each chapter, we meet another new person who is part of the supernatural underground, (often a famous god or goddess,) and we get to know our heroine's relationship to them. Of course there's a quest to find a missing magical object, magical hunters pursuing Junipher, and deceit and betrayal as June has to decide who (and who not) to trust. The action never stops, and Junipher constantly finds herself in battle after battle.
The narration is wonderful. Although she does use accents when a character is foreign, she doesn't go overboard with imitating male and female voices, she just reads with inflection and attitude. Since the book is told through the first person, it really feels like she is speaking in Junipher's voice, with all the snark and sarcasm that the character possesses.
Although this story arc is complete, there are plenty more adventures and unresolved issues that make the reader look forward to the next book in the series. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Historia
Talvi Marinossian has slain maenads and fought off vampire attacks, but nothing has prepared him for getting involved with one of these forbidden "modern girls". When he finally tracks down Annika it's obvious that she's changed since her recent adventure in his homeland. It's also clear that she's not ready to embrace the next chapter in her life. He tries to persuade her to open up to him, but she finds it difficult since he won't even explain how he earns a living.

Anything but "happily ever after"
Revisado: 08-25-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes - if they had read or listened to the first book. We gain insight into the characters, and see how they are adjusting to their new lives together.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Silver Thread?
When chaos breaks out in the kitchen, Annika and Talvi make a huge mess, and James comes in and freaks out.
Which character – as performed by Nick Cracknell – was your favorite?
His portrayal of James is spot on - just the right amount of uptight snotty attitude and the perfect accent to match.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It was thought provoking - where some stories would end with "and they lived happily ever after", here we see the challenges as Annika adjusts to her new immortality and as she and Talvi adjust to married life.
Any additional comments?
The battle is over and Annika has returned to her old life. No one believes her adventures. Meanwhile, Talvi has crossed worlds to find her again, and he can't understand why she isn't overjoyed at his return. The two must learn to adjust to married life, as well as modern American culture. Just as they're starting to figure it out, Talvi gets called back to work - as a superntural spy in Europe. He leaves Annika with his brother Finn for safekeeping, but little does he realize that the changes in her body are about to make things even more dangerous since she does not yet understand what is happening to her.
There's a lot less action and a lot more character development in this book than in the first book. We need to understand more about the workings of the supernatural world and Talvi's role in it, as well as the growing conflict between Finn and Talvi as they realize they both love the same woman. We also get to know Annika's friends and family in Portland, and we begin to understand the challenges she faces as she learns to deal with her newly granted immortality. It's interesting and emotional, and will leave you craving the next installation of the story.

Scandal. Blackmail. Obsession. It's just another day if you're a Marinossian. When Annika disappears without a trace, Talvi launches the hunt for his most infuriating rival yet. His only clues are from a government he's increasingly at odds with. In exchange for access to their resources, he does the unthinkable and reveals Annika's true nature. Time is short, but the list of names Talvi can trust keeps getting shorter.

Recovery and Betrayal
Revisado: 08-25-17
Where does The Scarlet Tanager rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would rank it above Silver Thread, but below Flame and the Arrow.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Talvi's and Finn's father Ambrose. Many of the characters behave badly in this novel, and Ambrose isn't having any of it. He puts his foot down and reminds them what is appropriate.
Have you listened to any of Nick Cracknell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, this one was just as fantastic as the others. Nick is fantastic with different accents and inflections. He makes each character's voice unique.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Don't mess with a Marinossian
Any additional comments?
This book begins right where the previous book ended - with Annika being kidnapped by a doppleganger and Talvi close on her heels. After a harrowing experience as a vampire blood slave, Annika just barely escapes with her life. While Talvi is searching for answers, his twin sister finds Annika and delivers her to his family. Under the loving care of his brother Finn, she begins to recover, but the vampires have wiped her memories, and she doesn't remember Talvi. As she grows closer to Finn, they fight the growing attraction that threatens to tear the family apart.
This entire story is told from the third person point of view. Most of the chapters focus on Annika's story, but there are occasional glimpses into the lives of other characters - not just Talvi, but other more minor characters such as Hilda and Nicola. It really made the world feel full, and kept us engaged not only in Annika's plotline, but in everything going on everywhere in this wonderful world Emigh Cannaday has created. I had originally thought this was a trilogy, but I am very excited to discover that I was wrong, and I can't wait until the next book is released.

An exciting tale of fantasy, love, and destiny
Revisado: 08-25-17
If you could sum up The Flame and the Arrow in three words, what would they be?
Fantasy, love, destiny
What did you like best about this story?
Annika wasn't your typical heroine - she wasn't looking for love or to be taken care of. I enjoyed discovering her history and ancestry as she did.
Have you listened to any of Nick Cracknell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. I really enjoyed his performance - he gave each character a unique voice, and his mastery of accents made it thoroughly enjoyable.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed, I cried. I shared the characters frustrations and joys. I was drawn into the story and captivated until the end.
Any additional comments?
I decided to listen to this book during a driving trip that was 11 hours long. I was so grateful to have this to keep me entertained and awake during the tedious trip. I hadn't really listened to audiobooks before, but now I am completely addicted. The first thing I did after finishing this book was to go out and buy the second and third book in the series.
This book was filled with fantasy and romance, with a bit of dark manipulative power thrown in for good measure. Annika is bored and frustrated with her life, so she escapes to Europe to live with her uncle for a few months. One day, she accidentally finds a portal to another world where elves, vampires, trolls, and fairies. There, she discovers her history and her destiny as she finds herself drawn into an epic battle that threatens to strand her forever in this world. But when she also finds love, she wonders if maybe that might actually be where she truly belongs.
The entire book was told from the third person, mostly from Annika's point of view, but occasionally jumping around to other characters. It was helpful to see what else was going on, and how other characters reacted to events in order to fully understand the story. The writing was descriptive, and the sexy scenes weren't filled with cliched descriptions, so it didn't sound contrived. The characters were very well developed and easy to relate to and root for. An excellent start to what promises to be an exciting series.
