Who has not found themselves scrolling endlessly on screens and wondered: Am I living or distracting myself from living? In Emergency, Break Glass adapts Friedrich Nietzsche’s passionate quest for meaning into a world overwhelmed by “content.” Written long before the advent of smartphones, Nietzsche’s aphoristic philosophy advocated a fierce mastery of attention, a strict information diet, and a powerful connection to the natural world.

Nietzsche for the modern day

I found this a very enjoyable listen and it was nice to see his philosophy applied to modern problems. I do think some of the info was repetitive but i still enjoyed it

Historia
There have been a lot of books that have made the case for Buddhism. What makes this book fresh and exciting is Asma's iconoclasm, irreverence, and hardheaded approach to the subject. He is distressed that much of what passes for Buddhism is really little more than "New Age mush." He loudly asserts that it is time to "take the California out of Buddhism." And he presents a spiritual practice that does not require a belief in creeds or dogma.

Such an amazing slow burn! I 100% believe this to be a slow read. But something about this book made me want to continue to read/listen. Clares Danes does an excellent narration. I now need to watch the tv series.

A well written honest account of Malcolm X
Revisado: 10-15-24
I very much enjoyed this biography. Far superior to the “biography” by Manning Marable. The author of this book shows Malcolm X as a true fighter and a man who was willing to acknowledge when he was wrong. Which in my opinion is a true Virtue. The author does his best to avoid a sensationalist tone and present a factual side of Malcolm X. I highly recommend this book alongside the autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley

Pretty basic info on how to plan, organize, and execute an uprising through the use of guerilla warfare. With modern communication and social media, I wonder how well his methods would work today.

Im not sure what i was expecting but this book seemed more critical of religion rather than trying help a non believer build up their spiritual side. A lot of the sarcasm was quite witty though.

In 1962, boxing writers and fans considered Cassius Clay an obnoxious self-promoter, and few believed that he would become the heavyweight champion of the world. But Malcolm X, the most famous minister in the Nation of Islam, saw the potential in Clay, not just for boxing greatness, but as a means of spreading the Nation’s message. The two became fast friends, keeping their interactions secret from the press for fear of jeopardizing Clay’s career.

Disagree with the author
Revisado: 08-29-24
I have recently begun reading about Malcolm X and i dont think this book portrays Malcolm in a postiive light. The author states that Malcolm wanted to be the leader of the NOI and i dont believe that to be true, another disagreement I have is that in the epilogue the author states that Malcolm wanted to be centerstage. I think the camera looked for Malcolm X, i believe Malcolm was a humble man and wanted the truth to be known.

Historia
Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

The inspirational teachings in this collection show that the real way of the warrior is based on compassion, wisdom, fearlessness, and love of nature. The teachings are drawn from the talks and writings of Morihei Ueshiba, founder of the popular Japanese martial art of Aikido, a mind-body discipline he called the "Art of Peace", which offers a nonviolent way to victory in the face of conflict. Ueshiba believed that Aikido principles could be applied to all the challenges we face in life.

Revisado: 06-25-24
This book is so ridiculous. The aikido master in the story is dodging bullets, seeing auras around bullets, unable to be moved by gigantic wrestlers, just absurdity. How can anyone take this book seriously? This aikido founder peddled nothing more than Bullshitdo. The narrator is the only saving grace of this tall tale.
