Heartfelt. Honest. A well paced account of a life full of love, and of loss.
Revisado: 04-01-24
Loved this memoir by Robin Crawford. By the end of the audiobook, I found myself thinking. I’d love to be her friend. She’s a good one and I’m glad she found the life she wanted. We will always love (and miss) Whitney.

Historia
Michael Jackson was once universally acclaimed as a song-and-dance man of genius; Wacko Jacko is now, more often than not, dismissed for his bizarre race and gender transformations and confounding antics, even as he is commonly reviled for the child molestation charges twice brought against him. Whence the weirdness and alleged criminality? How to account for Michael Jackson's rise and fall?

Good one, insightful cultural read

Fairly analytical, full of acute observations about not only MJ and his tragic life arc, but also about our collective obsessions with celebrity, looks and power. Worth it.

So inspiring. This man is a treasure.
Revisado: 08-15-21
This book is a full boost of that optimism and perspective we can all use in such a trying time. Only Michael J. Fox can provide so much wisdom and self deprecating humor at the same time, and without ever appearing condescending. Highly recommended to anyone who’s looking for perspective.

Historia
Written during the early months of lockdown, Intimations explores ideas and questions prompted by an unprecedented situation. What does it mean to submit to a new reality - or to resist it? How do we compare relative sufferings? What is the relationship between time and work? In our isolation, what do other people mean to us? How do we think about them? What is the ratio of contempt to compassion in a crisis? When an unfamiliar world arrives, what does it reveal about the world that came before it?

Perfect flow of thoughts, reflections and narration. Just had to slow down a bit the narration speed to 0.9, but it allowed me to savor each word better.

Historia
Nothing is harder to do these days than nothing. But in a world where our value is determined by our 24/7 data productivity...doing nothing may be our most important form of resistance. So argues artist and critic Jenny Odell in this field guide to doing nothing (at least as capitalism defines it). Our attention is the most precious - and overdrawn - resource we have. Once we can start paying a new kind of attention, we can undertake bolder forms of political action, reimagine humankind's role in the environment, and find more meaningful understandings of happiness and progress.

Great book, terrible narration
Revisado: 06-20-21
Albeit too long, this book is an eye opening read on many aspects of contemporary human life. Could have been 2-3 chapters shorter, but it is insightful and interesting almost to the end. The narrator though sounds like a Siri-like voice tasked with reading a book. Completing the listening was truly a challenge.

A masterpiece of thought
Revisado: 05-10-20
Just read it - and your mind will be expanded by the time you’re done. How many books/essays/ authors can you honestly say the same about? On top of her already perfect writing, Jia’s narration is seamless (and I’m very picky with narrators). Now, go listen to it and enjoy having your mind transformed.
