Colleen has done it again. At first I was a little disappointed that it was like a remake of other poker books - boy was I in for a surprise. The poker sequence was riveting, and when that was finished you find a whole other story about prospecting for a goldmine. There was also a little blurb thrown in about a murder involving illegal cremations to hide the facts of murder by gun runners. Who could ask for more? There were some old characters who put in appearances and a ton of insinuations about coming storylines. I'm already for book 16.

For someone undergoing the subject matter it gave me a ton of information and inspiration. However, I almost stopped listening dozens of times because the narrator was so full of himself that it made the material hard to pick out of his egotism. I understand he is a co-author but all his personal angst did not lend itself to this being such important information for someone wanting to understand the technique and importance of fasting in weight loss and the reversing of diabetes. I would like to review sections of the book but fear I would just get irritated again so I may have to purchase the book and read it without the annoyance factor. Dr. Fung, please re-record this with someone else!

The title says it all. The whole family played parts in creating an emotionless, bully, privileged brat. He was never held responsible for anything that he did. Mary, while she has plenty to be bitter about, did not come out that way in the narrative. She speaks, as is her profession, as a psychiatric professional diagnosing a patient whose behavior needs to be explained because it is so bizarre. Her narration added a lot to the book because you could sense the deep sadness and involvement when she spoke of her various relatives. A must read.

Not many stories record the woman's view in this part of American history. As a woman, it was fascinating to see the "invisibility" of women of that era. Many times I was on the edge of my seat hoping she would not be caught. Liked the writers recap at the end as to the possible connection with historical fact.

This gave a lot of background information on the life and times of Arthur Conan Doyle from physician to adventurer to writer.

This should be mandatory reading for all high schoolers to let them know what has been sacrificed for the freedoms they enjoy. It was a very well written account of front line warriors and those they have left at home. Both the stories of Smitty and his wife show the tenacity which comes from representing our country while maintaining a firm sense of dignity and self. Communication was the key to hope and togetherness. That law can stretch across all barriors of human existence.

Story is fantastic, Narrator absolutely horrible!

I really liked the story because it has as much intrigue and unsuspected twists as can be found in the whole Hunger Games series - BUT, and it's a big one, I almost stopped listening because the narrator was so horrible. It was virtually impossible to tell if the purported speaker was supposed to be male or female and with the unusual names everyone had that didn't give you a clue either. There were many sections where characters were allegedly singing and the narrator did a sing-songy thing that wrecked the whole atmosphere around the scene. I have re=listened to the series but I would have to have no other choice to go through this torture again. I would suggest that Collins have this re-recorded by someone else.

Koontz at his best

I have been a Dean Koontz fan for years and I think this is his best most engaging book. The whole concept of genetically engineered animals is 21st century reality. The whole story is woven fantastically around the competing "bad Guys" each trying to find Einstein first. Who will it be? One of the government agencies? The assassin? Or Einstein's co-engineered enemy? The sequence of teaching the dog to communicate so he is understood is phenomenal. Love everything about this read!

Good crime flick but stretches believability a bit

I enjoyed this as an interesting crime book but it got a bit much when everyone was made to look like a suspect. Some of the things the main character did made you think she had no common sense whatsoever. I will still probably try another in the series to see if it makes a more reasonable story.

This was such a well written book that I felt I was right there in Italy with all the characters. The historical material let you feel the changing situations from the point of each side whether Italian, German, Fascist, Jew, or Partisan. I bit my nails during the mountain climbing, avalanche, spying, and gun battles. I cried for young love and mistaken judgments which made good people get killed. The wrap up at the end gave a finality to everyone's story instead of letting you hang and wonder. This book should be read or listened to by the current teen generation to let them see the impact of war.
