Interesting premise
Revisado: 08-09-24
The story line was intriguing, but I had to stop listening periodically because the parents -- and Sophie's acquiescence to their demands -- made me angry. I didnget through it and enjoyed the climax and denouement, but it was hard going at times.

Historia
Kate Reddy had it all: a nice home, two adorable kids, a good husband. Then her kids became teenagers (read: monsters). She's facing her 50th birthday; her mother and in-laws are in precarious health; and her husband is having a midlife crisis that leaves her desperate to restart her career after years away from the workplace. Kate is scrambling to keep all the balls in the air in a juggling act that an early review from the UK Express hailed as "sparkling, funny, and poignant...a triumphant return for Pearson."

Why...
Revisado: 08-16-19
...does nearly every heroine in a chick lit novel have self-esteem issues? Good story, but the constant self-doubt and self-denigration is wearing thin.

Historia
Why Mummy Drinks is the brilliant novel from Gill Sims, the author of the online sensation Peter and Jane. It is Mummy's 39th birthday. She is staring down the barrel of a future of people asking if she wants to come to their advanced yoga classes and polite book clubs where everyone claims to be tiddly after a glass of Pinot Grigio and says things like 'oooh gosh, are you having another glass?'

Laughing out loud
Revisado: 03-24-19
I enjoyed this book so much I told all my friends about it! As a mum, it struck many chords. as a wife, it rang true. As a working woman struggling to balance everything, it was especially true. I particularly appreciated that the author chose not to take the protagonist down predictable paths, and that she made the protagonist have to rethink her opinions (just like real people do.)
I highly recommend this book...as long as you're not squeamish about someone who swears a lot! (if swearing bothers you, this is definitely NOT your book!)

Historia
It's 1989, and Emma and her best friend, Dee, head to the USA to make their fortune. But completely inept and virtually unemployable, they discover that they can't even get a job in McDonald's. Forced to travel from California to New York with only pennies in their pockets, they bounce from scrape to scrape, surviving on their wits and the kindness of strangers. Bad luck and misfortune throw everything their way - snakes, earthquakes, black magic and incontinent dogs.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

An important read
Revisado: 09-14-16
Just Mercy gives a scathing insight into race, poverty, and injustice in our country. Bryan Stevenson, the author and narrator, does an excellent job of discussing his life's work with compassion, passion, and eloquence. By far the most stirring indictment of the miscarriage of justice in this country, and particularly the unequal punishments meted out.
