Historia
Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set out to write a book about writing, in the tradition of Orwell’s classic “Politics and the English Language,” but found himself grappling with deeper questions about how our stories—our reporting and imaginative narratives and mythmaking—expose and distort our realities. In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind.

Powerful and life changing.
Revisado: 11-10-24
Coates takes you through his travels with vivid and beautiful narratives while distilling deep and objective truths he finds along the way, not only on his own pathway of discovery, but also elevating places, people, and stories that haven’t historically had a pathway for others to discover. He lifts the veil of motivations for oppression in our society. In writing the Message, Coates not only conveys the power of writing, but more importantly demonstrates how powerful and important it is. This book changed my life - I highly recommended it for all people.

Historia
How can we make intelligent decisions about our increasingly technology-driven lives if we don’t understand the difference between the myths of pseudoscience and the testable hypotheses of science? Pulitzer Prize-winning author and distinguished astronomer Carl Sagan argues that scientific thinking is critical not only to the pursuit of truth but to the very well-being of our democratic institutions.

Freedom and survival is not a given. Highly recommended.
Revisado: 10-15-24
As important a relevant as ever on the importance of critical thinking, science, and the awareness of growing pseudosciencesvi. While a lengthy book, Sagan is a pure voice of not only the physical world and beyond but of objective thinking and giving readers the courage and agency to run their experiments in science and life. Skip through chapters if they get too redundant, but stay with it and if nothing else listen to the first few chapters and the last chapter, which really distills a lot of the book.
