Historia
A tyrant by day, a playboy by night. That's the reputation that precedes Richard VanRyan. He lives life the way he wants, no concern for the opinion of others. He cares for no one, is completely unrepentant, and has no desire to change his ways. Katharine Elliott works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics, but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job.

I don't understand all the great reviews.
Revisado: 03-22-25
I have not read any so called romance novels so I am just providing my reaction to this novel as a reader. I found this novel repetitive, boring, fulll of cliches. Bottom line, a waste of a credit in my opinion

Mystified by the good reviews
Revisado: 05-11-22
I was hoping for real insight into life in Jerusalem from the Ottoman Empire through independence . Instead I found the history skimpy and shallow and the story less than compelling. The writing was really poor, awkward, , full of repetition and many cliches. The mother -daughter relationships were inexplicable, and the characters largely vapid and unsympathetic . The ending was ridiculous. The "beauty queen" was so unidimensional . She was not worth the ink.

Revisado: 01-25-22
I am mystified by all the positive reviews.. I found the writing overrun with cliches, the characters shallow and undeveloped, the scenarios not credible and the narration was absolutely terrible. There is a lot to be learned about the Japanese experience during WW2 but this book certainly doesn't do a good job of treating it.

Historia
On a night flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing very intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that's going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he's sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a cliché.

Very hard to overcome the narration
Revisado: 08-18-19
I am having trouble finishing this book because the narration, particularly the male narrator, is terrible. I note others have said similar things about the narration here and I hope Audible will take this into account in future books. I often wonder whether when there is a huge consensus (not here necessarily),Audible considers re releasing the book with a different narrator. I have many times delcined to purchase a book after seeing multiple bad ratings for narrators.

Historia
Sled dog racer Jessie Arnold stars in a series that's "suspenseful, intelligent, and filled with the spectacular beauty of the northern wilds" ( Dallas Morning News). Her friends, Laurie and Jim, have acquired their dream, an old lighthouse on the Alaskan Inside Passage, and invited everyone to a party. Not a party in the typical sense, but one where guests earn their keep by restoring the old building.

It is hard to believe this book sold any copies. I am embarrassed to have chosen it. It is so poorly written, full of cliches, silly, trite. This writer should take his own advice about writers and books and never write another.

The children - two 11-year-olds, an eight-year-old, and a six-year-old - love the nonstop buffet and the independence they have at the Kids' Club. But when they all go ashore in beautiful Central America, a series of minor misfortunes leads the families farther and farther from the ship's safety. One minute the children are there, and the next they're gone.

Any additional comments?
Having read all the raves, I was anxious to read it but was disappointed . The narrator was terrible, really terrible. The suspense everyone talked about was entirely lacking. I thought the writing was silly and cliched. The characters were shallow. In short, I kept wondering what the fuss was, hoping it would get better. It never did. I kept thinking, surely she won't write "I want my bunny" and "I have to pee" again, but there there were over and over again. Just an example of some of the many things I found so innane about this book.

The heading says it all. The characters were so cardboard.Their lines predictable and cliched. The narrator was terribly annoying. If this is what appeals to young adults, I worry for our future.

great book. flawed narration
Revisado: 11-21-11
Wonderful writing and insight into a shocking period in world history. But, the narrator, who was fine for most of the voices, was absolutely horrible in the part of Robin. So horrible, overblown, and annoying that it was painful to listen to and I came close to just buying the book in print to avoid listening to him. I wonder what the author thinks of the narrator's interpretation of this important character. It really ruined this book for me and I have been waiting for it for three years. I wonder what kind of quality control was untertaken before this was released. Not enough I think.
