Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Sweet escape
Revisado: 10-30-24
The book/story-line and narration have been riveting from the first paragraph. I look forward to errands and chores simply to be able to listen - it rivals any movie. There is such depth and details from a strong feminine perspective that despite the hardships, horrors and sadness it is empowering and inspiring.

Historia
A few years ago, Kris Carr’s world was falling apart. Her father was dying, she had to pivot her business because of the pandemic, and she was on the verge of reaching her twenty-year milestone of living with an incurable Stage IV cancer diagnosis. While sitting in a CVS parking lot, she broke down, finally allowing herself to feel the massive stress and sadness she had been suppressing in order to seem strong for those around her, and for herself.

My new gift book
Revisado: 09-27-23
Simply amazing. Spoke to me on so many levels and in so many ways. Gonna buy a hard copy after listening to highlight all the parts I loved. It’s one of those books you want all the people you love to read. Kris does an amazing job boldly addressing what we often want to skip over or ignore in life while acknowledging all the different forms of loss and grief from death of close family to loss of pets to loss of relationships and everything in between. Kris does it in a such an honest, tender, understanding yet practical way. I cried and laughed and came away feeling as though I had both practical advice and had just had the most amazing coaching/therapy session and the most refreshing and loving conversation with my best friend. Many thanks and much love Kris!
