What exactly is sexual attraction and what is it like to go through life not experiencing it? What does asexuality reveal about gender roles, about romance and consent, and the pressures of society? This accessible examination of asexuality shows that the issues that aces face - confusion around sexual activity, the intersection of sexuality and identity, navigating different needs in relationships - are the same conflicts that nearly all of us will experience.

Informative and interesting, especially the first half
Revisado: 01-27-23
I enjoyed learning about the ace community and it helped me to understand someone close to me as well as challenge some of my assumptions.
In my opinion, the chapters get a little long and in the weeds during the back half, so skipping to the next chapter may be appropriate for some of those.
Also, a disturbing murder is described and I don’t think the context (that the murderers may not have been physically intimate, but people assumed they were) really justified its inclusion.

Historia
It was long ago, but not as long as it seems: The Berlin Wall fell and the Twin Towers collapsed. In between, one presidential election was allegedly decided by Ross Perot while another was plausibly decided by Ralph Nader. Landlines fell to cell phones, the internet exploded, and pop culture accelerated without the aid of technology that remembered everything. It was the last era with a real mainstream to either identify with or oppose. The ’90s brought about a revolution in the human condition, and a shift in consciousness, that we’re still struggling to understand.

A return to form for Klosterman

Entertaining and insightful. I’ve always loved Klosterman’s style and vocal performance. While this is obviously a more mature book than Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs, this is still my favorite since that one. Highly recommended.

A Podcast that touches on many interesting topics for example: The Paranormal, UFOs and Aliens, Conspiracy Theories, Mythical Beasts, Cryptozoology, Secret Societies and many more all in a lighthearted way, as well as special guests, current events and rants about things we hate. Very stupid people speculating about nonsense.
Revisado: 04-07-21
I guess I’d recommend this to people who are unable to think critically or challenge their own assumptions. QANON, COVID anti-vaxxer misinformation. They’ve been banned on other platforms, and should probably be banned from Audible as well.

Not the essays - just a commentary track
Revisado: 05-21-17
I pre-ordered this as I like all of Klosterman's work, and particularly love his audiobooks.
However, the title and cover art are very misleading, as it just consists of him giving commentary on the print book, which I don't have. He says in the introduction that it wouldn't work as an audiobook due to the interviews, but I really enjoyed IV, which was in that format. This seems more like a bonus feature, but it still costs a full credit.
I'll try to get the real book now, but I'm mostly disappointed that the audio version of this book isn't likely to ever exist.
