Historia
Afeclin walked nervously to the entry of the cottage. He held his breath as he passed over the threshold. A little cradle was the only piece of furniture left in the building. Afeclin touched the cradle delicately with one finger. All of a sudden he fell backward onto the floor as an image of the fire burst into his mind…. He had seen a horrified face that screamed amongst red hot flames.

Character Driven and Worth a Listen
Revisado: 12-05-23
Journey of Destiny is precisely what is claims to be… a journey. It focuses on the relationships, dreams, and shortcomings of the characters as they venture far from the safety of home. While there are plenty of foes and allies to be met along the way, driving the story forward, the emphasis lies more on character than plot.
The world building is sweeping and gives the book the grandeur of a classic epic fantasy while also feeling like a cozy coming of age tale. In perfect sync with the writing, the narration balances on the line between classic and fresh. There is something familiar about Paul Metcalfe’s narration style, giving the impression of an old friend telling you a story that always needed to be told. His characterization is lively and varied, reminding the listener that this story is all about the people we meet throughout the pages.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening and am left wondering what comes next for our young explorers as they seek out their destinies.

An Unravelling Question That Spirals into A Dark Journey
Revisado: 08-07-23
The book opens with murder, mystery, and a forgotten past. This is no slow starter. I was immediately hooked and wanted to know what was happening in our protagonist’s, Mason Mackay’s, frazzled young mind.
As the story unfolds, the question of Mason’s past becomes a major focal point and I was ready for some answers long before they were delivered. I began to lose hope (and admittedly a bit of interest somewhere in the middle), but things really pick up again at the end as secrets are uncovered and motivations are revealed.
The narration was definitely a performance with plenty of characterization and a voice that drips with importance and intrigue. However, at times I felt the narration overpowered the story, which I felt called for a bit more space for reflection.
