Language maybe okay for locker room buddies
Revisado: 05-19-18
At one point the author says that bad guys "drink, smoke, and swear." IMHO (okay I'm not a young locker room guy), there is WAY too much swearing here, and he brags about smoking cigars -- in a book promoting healthy practices! I admit he knows more about the topic than I do, but this is served with much too much pepper. I want the info but am too turned off by the service.

Full of four-letter words - not wisdom or peace
Revisado: 06-28-17
What disappointed you about The Urban Monk?
Constant use of profanity! I tried to persist to hear his message, but it's very distracting.
Has The Urban Monk turned you off from other books in this genre?
No A wonderful book that seems to have a similar aim is Hurry Up and Meditate - a joy!
Any additional comments?
You really need to warn buyers when you present a book with this much offensive language, especially when we're led to expect a book that will bring us peace.

Warning: this is a religious book!
Revisado: 02-02-17
What would have made The Power of a Positive Friend better?
Omit constant religious references - I did not mean to buy a sermon!
Would you ever listen to anything by Karol Ladd and Terry Ann Kelly again?
No
Would you be willing to try another one of Karol Ladd and Terry Ann Kelly ’s performances?
No
Any additional comments?
Audible needs to post an obvious warning when a book is so strongly religious that it is offensive, even to those of us who grew up religious. I do not want to unknowingly buy a sermon!!

Buddhism is general not considered a religion by its Abrahamic counterparts because of its spiritual and individual nature, rather than following a strict deity. Even the name Buddhism doesn't mean that they really pray to Buddha, but rather try to emulate the ways of Buddha - the man that reached enlightenment. In fact, the world Budhi means to have awaken which in Buddhism means to reach enlightenment.

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-19-15
The first THREE MINUTES and 20 SECONDS of this audio are legal disclaimers!! What a joy-killer! Reading is done in a halting monotone and several words are mispronounced. There is some knowledge here, but it's not worth the agony needed to receive it.

Historia
In today’s society, games are fulfilling real human needs in ways that reality is not. Hundreds of millions of people globally - 174 million in the United States alone - regularly inhabit game worlds because they provide the rewards, stimulating challenges and epic victories that are so often lacking in the real world. Jane McGonigal argues that we need to figure out how to make the real world—our homes, our businesses and our communities—engage us in the way that games do.

A more comprehensive and interesting approach
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not this series!
Any additional comments?
Not much value here. Simplistic, repetitive restatements of the same simple point at the beginning of each section - "what he's going to tell you" and not much real information. Excessive use of "actually."

Historia
In the insightful narrative tradition of Oliver Sacks, Monkey Mind is an uplifting, smart, and very funny memoir of life with anxiety - America’s most common psychological complaint. We all think we know what being anxious feels like - it is the instinct that made us run from wolves in the prehistoric age and pushes us to perform in the modern one - but for forty million American adults, anxiety is an insidious condition that defines daily life. Yet no popular memoir has been written about that experience - until now.

Disappointing
Revisado: 07-30-12
What disappointed you about Monkey Mind?
I expected this book to be entertaining and educational and it was neither. I heard the NPR interview, and I can't understand why this book is getting so much attention. The personal story keeps returning to his sexual encounter with a lesbian, and bounces back and forth in time. There is no new information on anxiety that I can tell. I listened to the whole thing, and kept thinking, "Maybe I'm about to get to the good part." There wasn't one.
