Well written. Plot that grabs you
Revisado: 08-26-24
Well written. Even though the characters are annoying they are not stick figures and they change by experiencing the story. this is also one of these novels that captures the site guys of our current world. I can imagine it being read 20 years ago as science fiction and 20 years into the future with nostalgia.
Definitely an engaging read.

Historia
Jack Diller is just one more struggling actor on the road to nowhere. He’s got an agent who barely remembers his name, his ex-girlfriend has hooked up with a Silicon Valley dude, and the milk in his fridge is so far past its sell-by date it’s historic. The only way Jack can scrape together a bare existence is by delivering food to exactly the types of successful people he wishes he could be. Then, one day, a very strange audiobook shows up on his phone.

after a lifetime of Reading so that it has become easy to see plot quirks before they appear, this novella really Shocks and delights. will Wheaton does an exemplary job of narrating as does Ron Perlman in his smaller yet equally important role.

For God's Sale Get Maria to Clear Her Throat
Revisado: 08-21-23
This is a well researched, highly interesting book that for some reason convinced the author she was a narrator as well. Doesn't someone at Audible produce or vet these things?. She has an unpleasant voice that sounds like she needs to blow her nose or get the phlegm out of her throat. To me, the reaction is so visceral I lose track of the text because I am so put off by me waiting for her to clear her throat. AND I really like her writing!

Historia
Twelve-year-old Crispin has lived on the streets since he was nine - with only his wits and his daring to sustain him, and only his silent dog, Harley, to call his friend. He is always on the move, never lingering in any one place long enough to risk being discovered. Still, there are certain places he returns to. In the midst of the tumultuous city, they are havens of solitude: like the hushed environs of St. Mary Salome Cemetery, a place where Crispin can feel at peace - safe, at least for a while, from the fearsome memories that plague him... and seep into his darkest nightmares.

painting. That crystal realism that hides a fairytale about wickedness. Koontz's writing is distinctive. He is troubled by what we let our selves think about only rarely. This is because there is no answer for the evil that plagues the world. Definitely an enjoyable tale but extremely well-written.

An important, deeply thoughtful & satisfying book
Revisado: 10-17-21
This book is one of those novels that stitches together a number of stories but it is so much more. From the broad expanse of human history, down to the microscope of a fascinating social history, the book is part science fiction, part historic fiction, part fantasy. If is about how humans both build and destroy. The most intrinsic of truths that life is a paradox.
The book is both a great pleasure and something that warrants thought and discussion.
Hello Simon Jones! You have grown so as a talent since the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Marin does a superb job as well.
However, it is not a book you can listen to with one ear. It is a work that requires and deserves your full attention.
Oh and the ending does not disappoint.

With patience you will find delight
Revisado: 02-15-20
This book is an example of a new genre I see forming which I call Surrealism of the Southern United States. Michael McDowell, Charlene Harris and obert McCammon all practice this style which mirrors the Surrealism of the South American writers - Gabriel García Márquez, Laura Esquivel and some of the works of Isabel Allende. The South Americans are Catholic sensualists, bringing religious imagery and the suffering of life into that clarity of a surreal dreamscape, in contrast the Southerner’s tales are all about capturing the spirit of child-like belief. They weave stories into a tapestry of endless summer days, local monsters and casual racism.
A Boy’s Life creates a world where white pride and the march of twentieth century progress exists alongside ghost hot rods, dinosaurs and other things... At first it seems like a delightful indulgence; In talking book form a guilty pleasure that harkens back to our parents reading to us in bed. The characters are rich, there is both humour and pathos and what is most delightful - an excellent mystery.
After some 55 years of reading there is little that surprises me - but this novel did. I am a contemporary of the protagonist, though having grown up in New York City, his world feels more like one my mother would have inhabited as a child. The pace is slow like the rural community it is written about. You need to have patience, you need to abide to get its benefits. In essence, you need to be – not of this age. I give it 5 stars. I give the narrator George Newbern 5 stars as well.

Revisado: 10-08-19
I've been a prolific reader since I was 5 so that makes for 56 years of stories. Its hard for me to not be mentally dissecting a novel as I am reading it. This book was a genuine surprise as are the characters. Definitely worthwhile reading and worthwhile thinking about after.
