Historia
You don't always get a second chance...unless you're a pawn for an eldritch horror that: A) can bend time, and B) is a sore loser. Justin Thyme is not a good man, nor one destined for glory. He was meant to die in obscurity, yet another level 82 Templar that was just about to get chewed up by a horde of skittering monstrosities clawing at humanity's last enclave. One short conversation with a time-splitting monstrosity later, and Justin finds himself flung five years into the past-right when the Earth was first chosen to host the 9,947th Gladiatorial Games.

What stands out the most about this book is the constant, almost ever presence disrupting stat and log information.
Revisado: 12-24-24
As mentioned in the title of this review, listening to this book is very difficult. If it were not free I would have stopped at the beginning of chapter 4. The story concept is actually pretty good as far as the genre is concerned. The narrator does his best and is very good with the very poor dialogue and terrible characters. I will not be spending money on the rest of this series.

Historia
When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has . . . Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere. Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway.

Narration disrupts the fun
Revisado: 03-25-24
I hated the total disruption caused by shouting out the names of skills and classes with a brief pause before and after. But the story itself kept me there, enduring the disruption. If the second book does not get rid of it there is no way I’m getting the next book

Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Intelligence dampening effect
Revisado: 12-10-22
Written and narrated as if it is meant for children from 4-6 years old. Every moment was agony, and it felt like my intellect was being drained with each sentence. I ultimately could not go on past chapter 6.

Historia
I’m Krystin Blackwood, and I’ve only ever been good at one thing: killing demons of Darkness. But at 24, I’m about to face my toughest challenge yet: shifting from working alone to joining a team of three other Hunters. Newbie Hunters. They don’t know their magik, they barely know their place in the world, and when they find out the secrets I’ve been carrying, they’ll definitely decide it’s safer if they don’t know me.

Started out very bad so far
Revisado: 09-17-21
1) She is supposed to be an experienced Demon Hunter. First encounter she charges up and jumps on his back? Really? That is…so…middle school. What the hell! That’s how you kill powerful demons. Jump on their backs and try to break their necks?
She went from on being his back, trying to break its neck, to a distance away with someone between her and the demon without transition. Demon throws a knife and she catches it out of the air and stabs the demon…huh? Stabs the demon from a distance far enough away to allow her to catch it out of the air? If she is using her telekinesis the writer should have said so. But that’s not how it reads.
I hope it gets better.

Absolutely unreadable. Had to give up.
Revisado: 09-17-21
1) Narrator is fantastic, but there is only so much she can do with such sloppy writing.
2) the combat scenes are so ridiculous that I simply cannot suspend my disbelief. It was the scene behind Sky’s house with Mikayla that was the last straw.
3) The main character is simply too inconsistent with just about every thing she does or says.
4) there is no transition to most scenes. No transition between when one character speaks at the end of one scene with no clear ending, and the next when a different character speaks. Or when the characters move from one location to the next with no warning. The narration begins again with no hint about what is going on, who is talking, or where they are. There is a whole lot of guess work needed by the reader. This left me confused and frustrated.

Historia
Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him - something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she?

First person narration total fail
Revisado: 04-21-21
Right off the bat, this book completely misses the mark with its first person narration. Always being in the moment is very exhausting for readers. But, however, just in case....(this idiotic repeated phrasing style permeates the book saying the same thing again and again in different ways) I decided to hold on and keep reading due to its high acclaim. I could not make it past chapter 19. The oh so very important, world shattering, apocalyptic secret that just might explain what is actually going on is yet again withheld from the reader.
It’s like the author has no idea what is going on so, hell, why not make that lack of information a major plot line? Let the reader keep guessing too! Why the hell not? Not wasting anymore time on this trash.

Unbeknownst to him, Ray is about to partake on an adventure filled with magical beasts, warring factions, and a leveling-up system out of this world. He'll encounter filthy bandits, musty crypts, and friendly werewolves. Oh, you heard us right. If only he wasn't given negative charisma points around women, he might have a chance, but you can't win them all.

Present tense narrative is difficult to listen to
Revisado: 04-06-21
I definitely do not recommend this book. Every sentence sounds like it’s own paragraph describing a list or an order of events rather than a story or narrative. I did my beat to give it a shot but could not pull it off.

Historia
Dominic Thompson becomes an Infernal dungeon core and is given one task: honor the dark goddess by killing adventurers. Choosing an avatar is merely the first step. To become the greatest, he must make the other dungeon cores submit to him. And that means shattering their jeweled hearts. Or seducing their avatars. Lucky for Dom, the dungeon’s avatars are beautiful monster girls. But they’re also the fiercest warriors in the realms, and there’s a fine line between murder and seduction.

Historia
The wall just didn’t look right. Alex has been trying to cope. Life after his deployment had been rough. His ex-wife thought he needed to stop disappointing their daughter. She was right. He would try harder. With six hours before his little girl’s fourth birthday party, he saw the anomaly. One wall was too short. Plenty of time to tear out a panel and look behind it. He found a brick wall. His house wasn’t made of brick. Behind that was another just like the first. He still had time. When the second wall came down, Alex stood and stared at the shining doorway.

Sucks
Revisado: 11-23-20
1) this book has nothing to do with time travel.
2) incredibly predictable.
3) service to the plot means the main character makes decisions that are completely contrary to common sense.

Historia
The Beginning After the End: Publisher's Pack 2 contains books 3 and 4 of The Beginning After the End series, Beckoning Fates and Horizon's Edge. Though Arthur Leywin would like nothing more than to pursue his studies at the esteemed Xyrus Academy, where he hopes to push his already potent magical abilities to new plateaus and perhaps discover something more about his reincarnation into this world, he finds the politics of the school’s halls even more challenging to navigate than those of the council chambers he once inhabited as King Grey.

The ending was horrible
Revisado: 04-25-20
The biggest problem is how the hero is treated after defeating the villain. As a reader I would like to have some empathy for the realm in which the hero exists. The way things ended I could care less about the realm or about what happens next.
If the treatment of the hero of this story is meant to be some sort of progression tool, or an effort to solicit a desire to see how he emerges from his new challenge, it was wasted on this reader.
Having said all that, the author’s narrative method was excellent. The way the story was read and performed was fantastic. I’d recommend this book for that reason alone. All the way up to the end, it was great.
