Historia
Working with the full cooperation of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith have accessed a wealth of previously untapped materials. While drawing liberally from the artist's famously eloquent letters, they have also delved into hundreds of unpublished family correspondences, illuminating with poignancy the wanderings of Van Gogh's troubled, restless soul. Naifeh and Smith bring a crucial understanding to the larger-than-life mythology of this great artist.

Too much, I get it already!
Revisado: 05-02-23
The author spends way way too much time going over and over examples of Van Go’s mental sickness.

Author must find a more engaging style of story
Revisado: 03-03-17
His style of writing is to monotonous and the listener loses interest. The only way to get thru the book is many short engagements. If that was his intent it is a success.

Historia
We evolved to eat berries rather than bagels, to live in mud huts rather than condos, to sprint barefoot rather than play football - or did we? Are our bodies and brains truly at odds with modern life? Although it may seem as though we have barely had time to shed our hunter-gatherer legacy, biologist Marlene Zuk reveals that the story is not so simple. Popular theories about how our ancestors lived - and why we should emulate them - are often based on speculation, not scientific evidence. Armed with a razor-sharp wit and brilliant, eye-opening research, Zuk takes us to the cutting edge of biology to show that evolution can work much faster than was previously realized.

An alternative view on our changing diet.
Revisado: 03-20-16
She is critical of the paleo diet proponents and their timelines. She makes some good points. My concern is that people will take her title line and initial statements and use it to justify the current American diet. They will miss her later message of we don't get enough physical activity and we eat a too calorie dense diet.

Historia
When did the human species turn against the planet that we depend on for survival? Human industry and consumption of resources have altered the climate, polluted the water and soil, destroyed ecosystems, and rendered many species extinct, vastly increasing the likelihood of an ecological catastrophe. How did humankind come to rule nature to such an extent? To regard the planet's resources and creatures as ours for the taking? To find ourselves on a seemingly relentless path toward ecocide?

Interesting perspective
Revisado: 01-26-15
It is an interesting perspective on human development. Speculating on how we got here is always entertaining.
