Challenging Read - Enjoyed a great deal
Revisado: 06-21-14
Any additional comments?
Now and then I like a book that is a more challenging read. I love the easy mysteries I can enjoy while driving to and from work or when I am in and out of the car doing errand, so I can easily pick up where I left off. This was not one of those. It is book to concentrate on while listening. Oh so enjoyable though. I enjoyed it enough that I found myself sitting in a parking lot (more than once) and listening just a little more before going about errands and even going in the house when I arrived home. If you are looking for a light easy read this isn't the book for you, but when you want something a little more intricate and challenging, this may be the one.

Historia
LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.

An Engaging Story

This is the first Robert Crais book I have listened to and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I avoided it for awhile because somehow a book about a guy and his dog just didn't make me want to use a credit. Was I wrong! Fnally, I gave in and decided to give it a shot. From the very first page I was absolutely engaged and if time had allowed I would have listened to it all at one time. Just plain excellent! The story and character development were full and powerful. This one is a keeper. It may have been the first Robert Crais book I listened to it won't be the last.

Sadly I think I might have enjoyed the book more and found the story more engaging if I had not been so distracted by the reader...ugh! I have come to like this series a great deal and the previous readers were quite engaging. Not so much this time. Way too much emphasis was put on changing voices for the characters. When I listen to a book I am not expecting or wanting a play without a stage. I am looking for a good solid reader with tone and a love for the story. This time it missed the mark.

Historia
In Seattle, they're calling him The Pied Piper - someone who comes in the night and takes children away. To newly promoted police lieutenant Lou Boldt and police psychologist Daphne Matthews, it's clear this isn't about a single lunatic or random kidnappings: these crimes are well orchestrated, well executed, and, most chilling of all, occurring in cities across the country.

I am new to Ridley Pearson books. I am so enjoying this series. I started with the first Lou Bolt/Dalphne Matthews book and they just seem to get better. I really enjoy the characters and thought the reading was very fine. If you are trying this author for the first time I suggest beginning with the first in the series. The character development stretches and grows nicely from one book to the next. I found many hours of enjoyable listening in this book and the series.

Historia
"Of all of my novels, After the Night remains one of my personal favorites – and Faith Devlin and Gray Rouillard are two of my favorite characters. Faith is strong, proud, and fearless, and Gray – well, he’s just downright sexy. Faith’s search for the truth about the devastating scandal surrounding her mother and Gray’s father blazes with intrigue. Add some sultry Southern hear, and you’ve got a real scorcher of a listen." How sad
Revisado: 06-10-12
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The book is meant for the romance reader only. Mindless sexual tension seemed to be the only theme
What was most disappointing about Linda Howard’s story?
There was no story. I started out loving the characters and their development. After the first hour or so of listsning it went nowhere except...the bedroom, the porch, the pier, the boathouse, the new house, the summer house, a street corner, and anywhere else imaginable for a sexual encounter. There was so much potential to the story and to me it felt squandered
Any additional comments?
I have over 300 books in my library. I am always looking for new authors. I tried this and another Lisa Howard book because I liked some of the reviews and had not read any of her books yet. If you like mindless sex encounters these would probably be right up your alley. As for me I like a quality story that includes the sexual issues where appropriate and within reason. I am done with Linda Howard I guess.

So very good...and so very bad!
Revisado: 04-21-12
I absolutely enjoyed this story and was compelled to keep listening. I found it to be well written and I enjoyed the story very much. John Lutz books are some of my favorites.
I have over 250 books in my audible library. I love to listen to books, some I have enjoyed immensely and others not so much. While I absolutely enjoyed this story and the reader, this is the worst recording quality I have in my library. The background noises, skips, silences, and echo are distracting at best. What a terrible recording quality to inflict on a fine book!
