Wonderful Prequel

Well placed into to one of the series' key characters. Enough twists to keep it tense through the entire novella. Heard it in one sitting because I didn't want to stop until o knew what was going to happen.

Juvenile One-Joke Waste of Talent

This looked promising, but the humor had roughly the same level of sophistication as a locker room prank involving human waste. I couldn't even give it 10 minutes listening before I was not only bored but actually annoyed.

Deeply Satisfying

As a Weber and Honor fan who has read the entire series repeatedly, I found this story deeply satisfying, enjoyable and an emotional roller coaster at the same time. At one point I wanted to get in the car and drive South to throttle David, while at others I felt I would forgive him anything so long as he keeps writing. Weber is a world-builder without peer, and this is my favorite of his worlds to visit.
The last two books told the same stories from different POVs and I feared the story might not move forward enough, but I was pleased how well it does in this book.
Try not to make any plans that will interrupt you because you may resent any interruption in reading this. Better yet, listen to the audio book, as Allyson Johnson is excellent as the narrator.
So I guess it is time to go back to Basilisk Station and start the ride again...enjoy!

Good story told by a BAD narrator

As good as many of the Myron Bolitar stories, though there are others in the series I like more. The narrator was painfully bad, though, reading every sentence as a declarative statement without much variation in pace or tone.

Entertaining steampunk, suitable for teens or adults. Excellent narration too.
This story features the adult daughter of the protagonists from the Parasol Protectorate series, which I also recommend.
