Great read / listen
Revisado: 11-09-18
Great book, as well researched as all of Jeff Guinn’s books are. The level of detail is amazing, I thought I already knew a lot about Manson, but I learned even more.
Can’t wait for his next nonfiction book!

Historia
In the 1950s, a young Indianapolis minister named Jim Jones preached a curious blend of the gospel and Marxism. His congregation was racially mixed, and he was a leader in the early civil rights movement. Eventually, Jones moved his church, Peoples Temple, to northern California, where he got involved in electoral politics and became a prominent Bay Area leader. But underneath the surface lurked a terrible darkness.

I truly Iike this author, two books- this one and Going Down Together - well researched, well written, and he doesn’t insert any of his personal opinions in to the story.
Looking forward to his next book

Historia
Long before their first Super Bowl victory in 2003, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did something no NFL team had ever done before and that none will ever likely do again: They lost 26 games in a row. It started in 1976, in their first season as an expansion team, and it lasted until the penultimate game of the 1977 season, when they defeated Archie Manning and the New Orleans Saints on the road. It was the beginning of a new streak for a team that had come to be called "The Yucks".

I am not a Bucs fan, but I loved the old creamcicles!
Fun story, good narration, and I almost cried when the Bucs wine their first game!
Culverhouse May have been cheap, but at least he is not a knucklehead like Jerry Jones - who fires Tom Landry in such a classless manner?
I got to review a great book and slam Jerry Jones- it’s a good day!

Historia
From terrifying missile tests, its unmissable Olympic cheering squad, and the war of words between President Trump and Kim Jong Un - not to mention stranger-than-fiction stories of purges and assassinations - news from North Korea has dominated global headlines. But what is life there actually like? In See You Again in Pyongyang, Travis Jeppesen, the first American to complete a university program in North Korea, culls from his experiences living, traveling, and studying in the country to create a multifaceted portrait of the country and its idiosyncratic capital city.

Save me from the hippie millennials with a PhD
Revisado: 06-21-18
This guy hates the U.S. with one breath, he talks about the human rights issues in the DPRK, and then he blames it on the republicans. He recently earned his Ph.D. And it must have been in politics, economics, and foreign relations because he has no issue telling us his opinion. Get off your CNN podium and stick to what you know. He literally trashed everything “American”, and we can blame everything on George W. Bush...
This could have been a great story if he had left his politics alone. He could have waited a bit to publish this so he could blame everything on Trump.
He is also kind of pretentious- obviously impressed with his experience in the false and protected world of academia... I heard the word “banal” more in the first half of this book than o have heard in conversation in ten years.

Historia
In 12 years, Michelle Lyons witnessed nearly 300 executions. First as a reporter and then as a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Michelle was a frequent visitor to Huntsville's Walls Unit, where she recorded and relayed the final moments of death row inmates' lives before they were put to death by the state. Michelle was in the death chamber as some of the United States' most notorious criminals, including serial killers, child murderers and rapists, spoke their last words on earth, while a cocktail of lethal drugs surged through their veins.

Somewhat misleading title
Revisado: 05-28-18
This is an interesting book, but it does not really go into detail about “the final minutes”.
I was very disappointed the narrator consistently mispronounced several words common in Texas such as “San Miguel, Martinez, and Corsicana”. Come on, you’re from Texas and do not know how to pronounce common Hispanic surnames?
I appreciate that the author did not try to convince me the death penalty is wrong, but instead she explains her growth and changes which led to her change of mind.
As far as the conflict with Livingston, he is your boss. Your job is to do what he says, not what your former supervisor thought the job should be. No wonder you were drummed out, but as a former exempt employee, I understand the hypocrisy of those time sheets
Overall, a good listen

But this privileged existence was about to be shattered. When a strictly forbidden magazine he lent to a friend goes missing, Jang Jin-sung must flee for his life.

Historia
“Sam, could you do me a favor?” Thus begins a story that has now become part of America's true-crime hall of fame. It is a gory, grotesque tale befitting a Stephen King novel. It is also a David and Goliath saga - the story of a young lawyer fresh from the public defender's office whose first client in private practice turns out to be the worst serial killer in our nation's history. This is a gripping true crime narrative that reenacts the gruesome killings and the famous trial that shocked a nation.

This incredible story shows how John Douglas tracked and participated in the hunt for one of the most notorious serial killers in U.S. history. For 31 years a man who called himself BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) terrorized the city of Wichita, Kansas, sexually assaulting and strangling a series of women, taunting the police with frequent communications, and bragging about his crimes to local newspapers and TV stations.

Good book, but....
Revisado: 03-17-18
Every FBI agent I have ever worked with has been self absorbed and overly impressed with themselves, John Douglas is no different.
But this is a very good book and interesting read. Informative, just could have enjoyed it better without the self adulation and promotion.

Historia
Every day, three times a day, the students march in two straight lines, singing praises to Kim Jong-il and North Korea: Without you, there is no motherland. Without you, there is no us. It is a chilling scene, but gradually Suki Kim, too, learns the tune and, without noticing, begins to hum it. It is 2011, and all universities in North Korea have been shut down for an entire year, the students sent to construction fields - except for the 270 students at the all-male Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST).

Save us from the Millennial Social Justice Warriors
Revisado: 03-17-18
This is a good book. I found it interesting and the entire time I was wondering how PUST felt it was OK to publish this book. But as with any millennial, they know better than governments, religions, and missionary administrators at PUST. Not only did she lie to PUST, she lied to everyone else- I’m not worried about deceiving the DPRK government. But from the beginning, she let it be known she was smarter than everyone else, and she was going to do what she wanted even if it harmed the mission she volunteered for just to write her own book. Millennials are smarter and know more than everyone and they will get their way regardless of the price others have to pay. Other than that, a good book.
