Every twist & turn imaginable
Revisado: 05-05-24
I know some of commented about the narration but I really thought that was fine. For me, it was the story line. It's like the author tried to throw in every possible twist and turn they could think of to the point of being so unbelievable.

Wonderful story of friendship
Revisado: 02-09-24
I enjoyed this book so much. The history was so interesting , but more importantly , learning about the friendship between Mary Bethune and Eleanor Roosevelt was one I had never heard. The only thing that was a little bit odd in the narration was sometimes the person narrating the voice of Eleanor... her intonation would change to where I would think somebody else was doing her voice. Then later, Eleanor's voice and intonation would be like it was originally. It was still very enjoyable regardless.

Heartbreaking story
Revisado: 03-16-23
This book was hard to get into but once I got into the story, I didn't want to stop reading. It's a very heartbreaking story... and I got choked up several times just imagining how anguished I would be as a mother going through what Vera endured during the war. I never have that level of emotion when reading but the details of the freezing conditions & starvation in Russia were overwhelming.

The narrator brought this story to life for me. Having visited Morocco 4 months ago, I could envision many of the scenes and foods. This is the first book I've bought by this author but I'm sure I'll be looking into more.

Historia
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

An eye opener
Revisado: 06-23-21
Enjoyed this book very much. It was an eye opener though as to what happened in orphanages in Tennessee. Horrible circumstances of how the children were treated and siblings separated.
