Historia
New York City in 1978 is a dirty, dangerous place to live - and die. Joey Peacock knows this as well as anybody - he has spent the last forty years as an adolescent vampire, perfecting the routine he now enjoys: womanizing in punk clubs and discotheques, feeding by night, and sleeping by day with others of his kind in the macabre labyrinth under the city's sidewalks.

You Won’t Know That You Wasted Your Time Until The Last 20 Minutes
Revisado: 10-10-24
Truthfully, this is one of the worst endings to a vampire story that I have ever read.
Initially, I compared the story to the classic Interview Of The Vampire, but I was very disappointed in how the author went about the end.
The author spends several hours telling you a fantastic story in great detail and it’s very very well told, but in the last 20 minutes the author makes an attempt to claim that he got one over on the reader, and that one of his characters isn’t who they thought he was, but then doesn’t actually take the time to unpack that situation and explain how. In this way, I felt like the ending was hurried through. I felt like because of that, I didn’t care what the author was trying to tell me at the very end because he went about it so confusingly which ultimately left me feeling like I wasted the last 8 or so hours listening to this.
I’m pretty mad about this one.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Not What I Was Expecting!
Revisado: 02-03-22
I just finished this audiobook. Good book overall, but I feel like to was advertised poorly in that it was 65% about the history of the Chicago worlds fair of 1893 and 35% about H.H. Holmes...it was advertised as a book about Holmes.
Generally a very good and detailed historical account of the late Victorian era though!

Confessions of an English Opium-Eater, Thomas De Quincey's best-known work, is an account of his early life and opium addiction, in prose that is by turns witty, conversational, and nightmarish.

Classic Masterpiece…
Revisado: 01-26-22
Great book, but at times I could hear where they omitted parts of it, and that lead me to believe that it was either abridged or poorly edited. That’s why I gave it an overall 4-star rating, though it was performed well.
