Tom Hanks makes this book….

I think reading this book might have been a bit slow.
But who doesn’t love Tom Hanks?
This was a softer side of him, and I really enjoyed the story listening to his voice.

Monotonous voice

I wish I could have listened to this story- but the authors voice felt like I was listening to a middle schooler read out loud in class. No inflection, rarely any emotion, so monotonous that her voice grated on me. It really does pay to have a good performer read a book.

Walk around in the feet and head of this young, big, tall, heavy black man and learn just how it feels to be him.

la la la, yada, yada, yada with nothing much interesting to find out. It only got mildly interesting when the girl was shipped off to a brothel.
I’m finding more and more I can’t tolerate weak characters, especially women portrayed as weak, because we are anything but. I stopped listening with 5 more hours remaining

It was ok.

The narrator’s voice didn’t match the characters penchant for badly used swear words.
The narrator sounded much too smart and elegant to use words like dickhead and bastard.
And, really, who ACTUALLY uses the word bastard to swear anymore? And what woman calls themself a dickhead? The whole story could have been delivered without them. And I am no prude. They just didn’t seem to belong.
The story was ok- the characters interesting. But it wasn’t worth $15.
