Difficult to follow...
Revisado: 03-10-22
I have read Scott Turow before and usually like his books, although none has surpassed Presumed Innocent. I had no problem with the musical accompaniment since I listen in my car and it is barely noticeable. However, the problem I did have was being able to concentrate on the storyline when he went off in so many mindless, meaningless directions. It certainly felt like he just wrote to fill pages rather than add content and worth to the plot. I did enjoy the narration and probably would have enjoyed it more if not for the irritating misdirection of the story.
Bottom line, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone for their next great read/listen.

Can’t even finish it…
Revisado: 02-18-22
I am such a huge Grisham fan. I’ve read every book and seen every movie and I have not found myself in this predicament before. The narration by Mary Louise Parker is just awful. She speaks in a very flat, monotone voice with no distinct difference in the character’s voices. I am not even halfway through the book and I’m not sure I can finish it. That certainly makes it difficult to know whether I even like the story or not. Whoever listened to this production and approved it should be fired!
Update: I did finish the book, however, I still did not enjoy the narration. The ending had an interesting twist which is typical for Grisham. While I agree with other reviewers that Mary Louise Parker is a great actress, she did not utilize those magnificent abilities in the narration of this book.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-28-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would change the narrator. She was absolutely the worst I have listened to. Perhaps I am very spoiled by the narration of later books by Barbara Rosenblat who gives such a distinct personality to each character.
If you’ve listened to books by Lisa Scottoline before, how does this one compare?
This is probably my least favorite in that I didn't like the narrator. The story was interesting but I didn't especially like the ending.
Would you be willing to try another one of Kate Burton’s performances?
Absolutely not.
Do you think Mistaken Identity needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. There is nothing to cultivate in the relationships.
Any additional comments?
I am a huge fan of Lisa Scottoline. However, depending on the narrator, I may choose to flip pages rather than listen.

Historia
Determined to find out what happened to her former deputy chief, Jack Fielding, murdered six months earlier, Kay Scarpetta travels to the Georgia Prison for Women, where an inmate has information not only on Fielding, but also on a string of grisly killings. The murder of an Atlanta family years ago, a young woman on death row, and the inexplicable deaths of homeless people as far away as California seem unrelated. But Scarpetta discovers connections that compel her to conclude that what she thought ended with Fielding's death and an attempt on her own life is only the beginning....

Disappointing and Boring
Revisado: 09-04-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The narration. This was absolutely, hands down, one of the worst narrators I have listened to. Of course, when you become accustomed to performances on the level of Barbara Rosenblatt, it is tough to be happy with another. There is not an ounce of personality in Kate Burton's voice and, while she added some slight accents to some characters, the monotone performance remained constant.
Would you be willing to try another book from Patricia Cornwell? Why or why not?
Yes, but she will have to write a book that has been more appealing than the last two. I have been a Cornwell/Scarpetta fan for many years; however, her books of late seem to lack direction and cohesiveness.
How could the performance have been better?
Kate Burton should have created the characters as other narrators do. Many of the narrators are so adept at this creation that I can envision the physical characteristics of the speaker. Not true with Kate Burton...the characters were all the same for me...singular in appearance and personality.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Boredom. I am only continuing to listen because I have been traveling and it was the last book on my iPod.
Any additional comments?
I have always anxiously awaited the release of the next Patricia Cornwell masterpiece. I do not anticipate that excitement to continue based on the last couple of books.

Worst Scarpetta Ever
Revisado: 06-01-11
I am a longtime Cornwell fan, but this book was terribly disappointing. I am not entirely sure if it was the narrator or the storyline that fell so short. Obviously this was written a number of years ago and Cornwell has improved over time and her characters are much more developed. What do I remember about this book...Marino was a slob who cleaned up his act. Spend your time on other more intriguing books.

Unfortunate Demise
Revisado: 10-25-10
I am a Turow fan and I wish that would have chosen to flip the pages on this one. While the story seemed to drag on, I think I would have remained interested enough if I was reading as opposed to listening. The narration was what made this book meet the unfortunate delete demise on my iPod. It was dull and monotone and made me quickly lose interest.

The murder of Paul Wheeler has all the elements of a blockbuster: family rivalries, incalculable wealth, and a prominent man dying in the arms of his beautiful mistress. It's a case that could earn Derek Mitchell even greater star power. When the Wheeler family approaches him about defending Creighton for his uncle's murder -- even before he's charged -- he jumps at the chance.

Revisado: 11-30-09
I loved all of the twists and turns in this book; I didn't see the final one coming and I respect an author who can still surprise me. As for her sex scenes, they are few and far between but are always expected (and anticipated) in a Sandra Brown book. Even though he doesn't read like Barbara Rosenblatt, Victor Slezak is excellent.

Revisado: 11-30-09
This book reminded me of the first books I read by Richard North Patterson...Degree of Guilt and Eyes of a Child. While I guessed the identity of the bad guy early on, I was still anxious as I always am when listening to one of his books. I loved it! The reader wasn't a Barbara Rosenblatt, but he was good.

Good read....bad listen
Revisado: 07-29-08
This book held my interest especially with the variety of characters introduced along the way. It wasn't his best, but I would recommend you flip the pages on this one rather than listen to it. This was absolutely one of the worst narrators I have ever listened to. I couldn't wait to finish the book just so I didn't have to hear him anymore.
