Wish I hadn’t gone on to Book 2

This story may be okay for some, but not for me. I have read and listened to many, many books, but I only finished listening because I kept hoping something interesting would happen. Nope. Every time I had to hear “the wheel weaves as the wheel wills”…aaagain…I lost a little more of my soul.

Historia
In the dark, primal jungles of the Congo Basin, something is ravaging the local population. When protests turn violent in front of the US embassy in Kinshasa, only the foreign policy experts paid attention. Civil war erupts, and people rip each other apart in the streets of the African capital. To avert disaster and preserve its self-image, an overwhelmed State Department dispatches a team of elite counterterrorism agents to bring their besieged people back alive.

Typical zombie story together with love of the Military
Revisado: 02-21-24
Overall not super terrible, but before you listen, make sure at least
1. You love military lingo: plenty of “more than brothers” cliches, a “hero” is only someone who puts their life on the line to “protect freedoms” (not anyone else who helps others in exceptional ways), “good guys/bad guys” screed throughout (as if everyone isn’t a mixture of both), etc.
2. You don’t think it’s racist to call the language people from Mexico speak “Mexican” instead of “Spanish”, or to say that such an immigrant family would be “the burrito” in the zombie lunchbox consisting of people from other places.

Historia
On a privately financed orbital habitat above the planet Uranus, political idealism conflicts with pragmatic - and illegal - methods of financing. Add a scientist who has funding to launch a probe deep into Uranus‘ ocean depths to search for signs of life, and you have a three-way struggle for control. Humans can’t live on the gas giants, making instead a life in orbit. Kyle Umber, a religious idealist, has built Haven, a sanctuary above the distant planet Uranus.

Sometimes it is easier to suspend disbelief about the *science* in a *science fiction* work — sometimes it is even sound — but in this one the science was too far off.

Historia
Ambassador Mahit Dzmare arrives in the center of the multi-system Teixcalaanli Empire only to discover that her predecessor, the previous ambassador from their small but fiercely independent mining station, has died. But no one will admit that his death wasn't an accident - or that Mahit might be next to die, during a time of political instability in the highest echelons of the imperial court. Now, Mahit must discover who is behind the murder, rescue herself, and save her station from Teixcalaan's unceasing expansion.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 10-17-23
There was simply not enough science or interesting ideas. I would more call it a Space Opera than a work from the genre of Science Fiction. The humor was good sometimes, i have nothing against same gender romance, but when it feels like it added nothing to the story at all — was only mentioned to make the book appeal to become award-worthy — then it becomes extraneous and annoying. I won’t be listening to more of this series.
