My name is Landon Hamilton. I'm the only thing keeping the universe in one piece. I thought fighting angels and demons was a tough gig, but now I'd give anything to go back to the not-that-good, not-so-old days. There's a new game in town, and it's one that's threatening to destroy everything that has ever been created. Oh, and my friends and I are the only ones who can stop it.

And the plot thickens...

So I am currently on the 4th book in the Divine Series, Bound, so needless to say I am already a fan of this series. One of the other reviews noted that the story is a lot of action with little release, and in this one I tend to agree, but this only happens over about 3 or 4 chapters, so its negligible in terms of the book as a whole. I liked #2 a little bit better and I really like #4 which I am currently listening to. So if you liked the series so far, there is no reason to not continue with it. Again the narration is awesome. I totally forget when Sarah or Charis is speaking that this a man narrating. There is never any question about which character is speaking. I highly recommend this book. If you haven't started the series yet, be warned, you will get hooked. Jeff Hays does such a great job with the characters that I honestly feel as is Landon is in my passenger seat every morning on my commute. If you don't think you will like this series, check out the narrator's other works. This is the best narration I have found on audible.com!

Historia
My name is Landon Hamilton. I died five years ago, except I didn’t get to rest in peace like most of the departed. Instead, I was tapped by Dante (yes, that Dante) in Purgatory to become his champion and save humankind from the rest of the Divine - you know, angels and demons and their mortal followers. Yeah, I saved the world; but my vampire almost-girlfriend, Rebecca, stabbed me in the back (literally); I was forced to kill my angel best-friend, Josette; I’ve got a snarky werewolf taking up residence in my soul; and to be honest, I’m getting tired of the whole damn thing.

Way better than Balance Book 1!
Revisado: 10-06-14
So I wrote a pretty good review for the first book in the divine series, Balance. The narration was great and the writing was pretty darn good. I was thrilled with this one though. Here is what is great...
1.) The writing has improved from Book 1. Not only is the story more complex and nuanced, but the author does a much better job of fleshing out the scenery and characters.
2.) The narration is FREAKING AWESOME. I listen quite a few audible books since I am a commuter. In order to be good as a narrator you must do one of two things; be British or utilize voices and audio techniques to help relay the scenery that the author tries to build in his writing. So Jeff Hays is not British, but the use of character voices is amazing and matches the first book (It's really annoying when narrators change the characters voices across a series). Furthermore he does a great job of making it obvious through audio techniques that someone is on the telephone for instance rather than leaving you wondering "wait are they actually in the room?".
Overall this an awesome book. I highly recommend it!

My name is Landon Hamilton. Once upon a time I was a twenty-three year old security guard, trying to regain my life after spending a year in prison for stealing people's credit card numbers. Now, I'm dead. Okay, I was supposed to be dead. I got killed after all; but a funny thing happened after I had turned the mortal coil...

Angels and Demons, revamped ( pun intended)
Revisado: 09-18-14
I was a little hesitant at first, I find that sometimes this particular genre of sci-fi can be a bit trite and rehashed, but BALANCE was awesome. For starters, the author does a great job of steering clear of the redundancy of traditional angel/demon movies and books. Each side, good, evil and neutral, is developed within the traditional constraints of the group, but by adding such human characters and free will to each group, the traditional lines between them become blurred. In terms of an audiobook, I really like this. I felt as though Landon, Josette and Rebecca were my traveling companions for the week. While I was fighting traffic on K-10, they were fighting fire demons from Hell rifts, which is essentially the same thing. But seriously, the character development really allows the listener to bond with the characters in a unique way. In terms of narration, it couldn't have been better. The booming and echoed audio mimics the demons ubiquitous voices perfectly (or so I would imagine, I don't have any personal experience with demons). The accents applied to dialogue were perfect and really added to the character development. I highly recommend this book to avid sci-fyers

Historia
Dreamer came back to Austin, Texas from a bad banana war with a souvenir slug in his head. No big deal, just a minor side effect: Now, every safe, every lock, every fancy alarm takes a nap when he's around. Dreamer's not tempted. He's straight arrow and doesn't need the dough. He's happy selling guppies, hanging out at Mama Lucy's Vishnu and Esus Barbecue.

Wonderful Narration and Amazing Writing
Revisado: 07-28-14
If you could sum up Interstate Dreams in three words, what would they be?
Fun, engaging and exciting
What did you like best about this story?
Neal Barrett Jr. has a way of bring the main character, Dreamer, into focus so well that I felt as though I was hanging out with him rather than listening to his story.
What about Jeff Hays’s performance did you like?
Hays does a great job of reflecting the characters in his voices. The voice differentiation in dialogue helps a lot and the characteristic southerness is something I can only imagine that the author intended in his characters.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Something happens with the mix of humor in the writing and witty delivery in narration that makes several parts in the book feel as if they were intended solely for you.
Any additional comments?
I highly recommend this book and this narrator.
