Historia
The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains. But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend. The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

Exciting, Devastating, Terrifying, Clever
Revisado: 09-05-23
Narrator is incredible. The writing is both eloquent and efficient. The strategies and tactics are all so clever and plausible. I love it. I'm sad that I've finished the book.

Historia
The Great Crusade has swept across half the galaxy, a million human worlds now embracing the truth and reason that comes with allegiance to the rule of Terra. But even such unparalleled success comes at a cost. Rumours abound that the Emperor plans to step back from the Crusade and raise one of his primarch sons to lead in his stead. Faced with the bitterly noncompliant human empire of Gardinaal and a leaderless host of Ultramarines, Thousand Sons and Emperor’s Children at his Legion’s command, the Iron Hands primarch Ferrus Manus decides to make an example that even the Emperor cannot ignore.

Historia
Many are the sagas of Leman Russ, Lord of Winter and War, most fearsome of the Emperor's primarch sons. At the height of the Great Crusade, his Space Wolves fight to bring the rebel world of Dulan to compliance. Enraged by the defiance of the tyrant Durath, Russ has pledged to strike him down personally - but his brother Lion El'Jonson of the Dark Angels advises more caution. With the might of two Legions arrayed against Durath, tensions nevertheless run high, and the rivalry between the Wolf and the Lion threatens to engulf them all.

Character Introduction
Revisado: 01-11-21
Chris Wraight, my favorite 40k author, does excellent work introducing the nature of the Space Wolves chapter and contrasting it with that of the other space marine chapters. The character of Leman Russ is made complex and nuanced while also allowing us to experience his rage and fury. This book doubles my enthusiasm for the rest of The Primarchs books. Also the narrator is outstanding.

Read After Lords of Silence
Revisado: 12-21-20
Excellent book! I recommend leading Lords of Silence prior to this book. Their timelines seem to match up nicely. All three narrators are fantastic. Their voices match their characters. I enjoy this author, Chris Wraight, more than Dan Abnett. So far I like this book better than the Eisenhorn series and Adeptus Mechanicus. The writing in between the action scenes is insightful and great for world building.

Historia
The Cadian Gate is broken, and the Imperium is riven in two. The might of the Traitor Legions, kept shackled for millennia behind walls of iron and sorcery, has been unleashed on a darkening galaxy. Among those seeking vengeance on the Corpse Emperor’s faltering realm are the Death Guard, once proud crusaders of the Legiones Astartes, now debased creatures of terror and contagion.

Wold Building
Revisado: 12-09-20
Lots of world building. The author is actually quite eloquent. Some 40k novels come across as pure action but this novel features wonderful insight into the thoughts of chaos people. This is my first time reading a 40k novel written from the chaos point of view. Very fun and very ominous. One of my favorite so far. I've read Eisenhorn and Adeptus Mechanicus and now this one.

Historia
The war raged across the galaxy. Billions had died, billions more were doomed. Moons, planets, the very stars themselves, faced destruction, cold-blooded, brutal, and worse, random. The Idirans fought for their Faith; the Culture for its moral right to exist. Principles were at stake. There could be no surrender. Within the cosmic conflict, an individual crusade. Deep within a fabled labyrinth on a barren world, a Planet of the Dead proscribed to mortals, lay a fugitive Mind. Both the Culture and the Idirans sought it....

The skitarii are the soldiers of the Machine God, the tireless legions of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Holy warriors, they carry the word of the Omnissiah across the galaxy, destroying impure machines and spearheading the Quest for Knowledge. A discovery of ancient technology sends a skitarii legion into battle on a forge world overrun by Chaos. When a cataclysm cuts him off from his tech-priest overseers, Stroika must rally his forces and battle both corrupt machines and Chaos Space Marines.

Historia
The starship Earthling, filled with thousands of hibernating colonists en route to a new world at Tau Ceti, is stranded beyond the solar system when the ship's three organic mental cores—disembodied human brains that control the vessel's functions—go insane. The emergency skeleton crew sees only one chance for survival: build an artificial consciousness in the Earthling's primary computer that can guide them to their destination—and hope it doesn't destroy the human race.

More Dialogue than Events
Revisado: 09-18-20
There is tons of dialogue and rather few events. When the events do happen they are gripping and meaningful. Most of the dialogue is full of arguments about theoretical physics, theoretical psychology, metaphysics, and computer science. Cool topics but jeeze it's thick. I plan to read The Jesus Incident.
Scott Brick performs better than he usually does. I liked his slower and more creepy cadence. Very ominous.

Historia
A century from now, thanks to a technology allowing instantaneous travel across light-years, humanity has solved its energy shortages, cleaned up the environment, and created far-flung colony worlds. The keys to this empire belong to the powerful North family - composed of successive generations of clones. Yet these clones are not identical. For one thing, genetic errors have crept in with each generation. For another, the original three clone "brothers" have gone their separate ways, and the branches of the family are now friendly rivals more than allies. Or maybe not so friendly....

Plausible technologies... realistic society
Revisado: 08-09-20
I like scifi where the author takes modern technology, adds a few tech breakthroughs, and then applies capitalism, politics, and human nature. This book is that. It's set in the 2130s, (expensive) teleportation has been invented, planets in other solar systems are being colonized, you have the ability to essentially have a computer desktop display on your vision. The world building develops throughout the book so you don't get overwhelmed. The character development is the same with flashbacks occurring frequently. The story is told from multiple characters viewpoints. The finale is a bit underwhelming. Excellent narration. I'm glad I read it. A cool sci-fi + murder mystery.

Historia
In The End Is Always Near, Dan Carlin looks at questions and historical events that force us to consider what sounds like fantasy; that we might suffer the same fate that all previous eras did. Will our world ever become a ruin for future archaeologists to dig up and explore? The questions themselves are both philosophical and like something out of The Twilight Zone.

Same subjects, New theme!
Revisado: 06-24-20
I have listened to all of Dan Carlins's podcasts. Yes this book covers a few topics he has already discussed (nuclear near misses, bronze age collapse, judgment of Nineveh, bombing Japan) but it is still informative and intriguing. Hearing the old topics told with the new overarching theme "The End is Always Near" is worth your time and money. Go Dan!
