Historia
In a sleepy village in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only thing that prevents the Dark Lord Sauron’s evil dominion. Thus begins J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of adventure, which continues in The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

Andy Serkis is BRILLIANT!
Revisado: 04-07-25
I’ve watched the movies many times, and I always thought they were long (especially the period of time they were released because most movies were an hour and a half), but now I wonder how they kept them at only 3 hours long because there was so much more source material, so much amazing source material! The book is without question beautiful, rich, imaginative, and wonderful but what drew me in and kept me enthralled was Andy Serkis’s incredible performance.
I have many favorite voice artists, but none can compare to what Mr. Serkis delivers in LOTR. I was blown away by the depth of his talent. I hope he won all the awards for this performance because it was perfection!

The narration was EVERYTHING!
Revisado: 03-30-25
I came this close (imagine my fingers a hairs width apart) to not purchasing this book because I didn’t think I was going to enjoy the actor narrating the novel. Man was I wrong because Jefferson White knocked it out of the park! By the end of the book his voice held so much gravitas, so much depth, it was beautifully delivered. The story, and his delivery, WOW! Suzanne Collins tells the haunting backstory of Haymitch Abernathy, the man we first meet as a sad drunken recluse after Katniss and Peeta become tributes in the 74th Hunger Games. This book is set 24 years before that meeting. As with most Hunger Games novels, there is no happy ending, but it is a journey worth taking. I’m actually listening to it for the second time as I write this review, it is that good.

Wait for it!
Revisado: 02-20-25
Thank goodness I read a review mentioning the SLOW start because I nearly gave up during the first couple of chapters. Then BAM stuff started happening!!! It took me a minute with the narrator, too, especially during the first couple of chapters (dry). I thought he was an odd choice because the protagonist is female, but I warmed to him as the story got going, and feel like he did a remarkable job.
I don’t want to spoil anything… so I’ll just say, you can’t/won’t predict the ending.
I always look for a long book, and this one was certainly that, but the hours flew by and I didn’t want it to be over. Luckily book 2 is available.
HANG IN THERE, IT GETS GOOD!!!!

It was an enjoyable read. Some of it was a tad predictable, but I was never bored and finished it in a day. The greatest part of this book was the narration. Therese Plummer has an amazing voice, and made me believe the men were actually men (lol sometimes that isn’t the case)!

A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

Missing a GIANT chunk of the story!
Revisado: 07-11-24
This was not my favorite title from this author. I think it ran a little long (which for me is usually impossible… the longer the better). BUT between chapter 86 and 87, the story progresses a bunch, a character returns, powers are revealed, S**T goes down OFF site/screen/stage/camera. Basically the big reveal, the OMG moment, not included. Like “and then you won’t believe what happened, the end.” I am assuming something went wrong with editing, but surely I’m not the only one that discovered it. I still have about an hour and a half of the story left but it would have been much more enjoyable (and understandable) with the missing audio.
All that being said, I normally enjoy this author a lot, and may continue with this book series.
And the narrator was great!

It’s officially booty o’clock, I’m alone again in my kitchen choking down a slice of terrible chocolate cake…and I’m pretty sure I just got drunk texted by the man I have a ginormous crush on. I’ve been daydreaming about Eliot Hoffman’s dimples for two months, and even though I’m sure this was a mistake on his end, it doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity on mine. It’s the middle of the night, and I just wanna talk to him. So I text him back.

Sweetest love story EVER!
Revisado: 05-20-24
This story hit me just right. It was funny, sweet, had the “will they, won’t they” storyline, great pacing… it was just such an enjoyable read! I really did not want it to end, and would love to have more of this couple’s story! I loved the writing, the voice acting was perfect, and the addition of occasional sound effects was just right!! Am I gushing? Yup, I love this author, and I am quickly blowing through all her selections on Audible. Take a bow, y’all, great work!!

My favorite apocalypse series!
Revisado: 01-27-24
I love the entire Mountain Man series, and was so excited to see another installment! I feel like this is probably the last time we hangout with Gus, and Uncle Jack, and if so, it was a very satisfying wrap-up to Gus’s story ❤️ I don’t want to say much because I hate when reviewers spoil it for future readers, but RC Bray, as usual, gave a stellar performance, and I recommend this entire series wholeheartedly (not a stinker in the bunch lol)!

Really enjoyed it!
Revisado: 10-14-23
The narrator was awesome, she had a ton of variety in the characters, and I was hanging on the edge of my seat for the entire story. I do wish there would have been a little more wrap of the story. I was surprised when it ended, it felt as if were being lead into book 2. Either that, or DK said “that’s all I got!”
Totally worth the listen, though!!
