Amazing product!
Revisado: 05-07-22
One of the very best production values I've come across in an audio books. The cast was stellar and I'm so glad it was an ensemble instead of a lone narrator.
The story itself is also great. All the different locals, perspectives, and culture made the world incredibly immersive and realistic.
Some stories about political fuckups and the likes were uncomfortably realistic at times.
And I would say that most, if not all of the characters and their stories were interesting and entertaining.
This is now one of my favorite novels.

Historia
Lydia is the favourite child of Marilyn and James Lee - a girl who inherited her mother's bright-blue eyes and her father's jet-black hair. When Lydia's body is found in the local lake, James is consumed by guilt, and Marilyn, devastated and vengeful, is determined to hold someone accountable. But it's the youngest in the family - Hannah - who may be the only one who knows what really happened.

Even better than Little Fires Everywhere
Revisado: 01-17-22
I love Celeste Ng's writing style which gets to the point straight away without unnecessary fluff. And yet her writing is still packed with emotion, and her characters are all so relatable. Even though I'm a man in my 30s I still act somewhat like Lydia around my parents.
This is one of my favorite books ever and I can't recommend it enough.
P.S. Cassandra Campbell did an excellent job narrating it.

Historia
A New York Times Top 10 Book of the Year and National Book Award finalist, Pachinko is an "extraordinary epic" of four generations of a poor Korean immigrant family as they fight to control their destiny in 20th-century Japan (San Francisco Chronicle). In the early 1900s, teenaged Sunja, the adored daughter of a crippled fisherman, falls for a wealthy stranger at the seashore near her home in Korea. He promises her the world, but when she discovers she is pregnant - and that her lover is married - she refuses to be bought.

Mostly great, but...
Revisado: 10-18-21
Most of the characters, plotlines and overall story are interesting, but the pace is very choppy - going from too fast, to too slow and everthing in between. There are other issues, but that's the main one.

One of the best
Revisado: 06-29-21
This, surprisingly, turned out to be one the best books I've come across. Perhaps even the best.
The whole story is told through several small flashback-stories, each being increasingly more interesting than its predecessor, all culminating in a story which is interesting and entertaining on its own and also has a very interesting and still rather unique look on technology and its place in out society.
Despite being written so long ago it's still relevant to this day.

Historia
The adventuring industry drives the economy of Arth, a world much like our own but with more magic and fewer vowels. Monsters' hoards are claimed, bought by corporate interests, and sold off to plunder funds long before the Heroes' Guild actually kills the beasts. Of course, that's a terrible arrangement for the Shadowkin; orcs, goblins, kobolds, and their ilk must apply for to become Noncombatant Paper Carriers (or NPCs) to avoid being killed and looted by heroes.

I'm not a huge fan of fantasy, but I enjoy satire and the characters were likable. I'll probably read the rest in the series

Wasted potential
Revisado: 05-02-18
I like the premise, especially as a comedy. But the lead is a wholly unlikable twat, there never seem to be a clear goal with obstacles to overcome, it severely lacks female characters, and all the characters (including the writer) feel like uncomfortable a-hole neckbeard geeks with overblown sense of grandiour.
By the end I hated pretty much everything about it.
