Historia
In the respectable seaside town of Flaxborough, the equally respectable councillor Harold Carobleat is laid to rest. Cause of death: pneumonia. But he is scarcely cold in his coffin before Detective Inspector Purbright, affable and annoyingly polite, must turn out again to examine the death of Carobleat's neighbour, Marcus Gwill, former prop. of the local rag, the Citizen. This time it looks like foul play, unless a surfeit of marshmallows had led the late and rather unlamented Mr Gwill to commit suicide by electrocution. ('Power without responsibility', murmurs Purbright.)

Carefully Crafted Puzzle
Revisado: 03-08-20
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. Unlike another reviewer, I thought the narrator did a very fine job. I can't imagine what she expected, but I believe Shepherd was a perfect choice to read this book.

Historia
The Duke of Rockliffe is 36 years old, head of his house, and responsible for his young sister, Nell. He is, therefore, under some pressure to choose a suitable bride. Whilst accompanying Nell to what he speedily comes to regard as the house-party from hell, he meets Adeline Kendrick - acid-tongued, no more than passably good-looking yet somehow alluring. Worse still, her relatives are quite deplorable - from a spoiled, ill-natured cousin to a sadistic, manipulative uncle.

Simply Wonderful
Revisado: 05-21-19
Stella Riley's clever, romantic, and honorable characters come vividly alive through the sublime narration of Alex Wyndham. His voice is like liquid velvet. The characters' personalities are defined by intelligent dialogue and the various voices Wyndham employs. Listening is a pleasure.
This book as well as the first in the Rockliffe series are among the best I have listened to in my many years of enjoying audio books. I can't wait to begin book three! Great storytelling!!

Historia
Miss Emma Harlow hasn't earned the reputation as a hoyden for nothing, so when the duke of Trent discovers her in his conservatory stealing one of his orchids, he isn't surprised - charmed, delighted and puzzled, yes, but not surprised. It is Emma who is amazed. But her vexation doesn't last long. For Emma is a practical young lady with a mission: to end her dear sister Lavinia's engagement to the villainous (and dreadfully dull!) Sir Waldo Windbourne, and she thinks that the famous libertine is just the man for the job.

Any additional comments?
Finally, a Regency romance akin to those of the great Georgette Heyer. Sadly, the author of this book has passed away, but Audible.com listeners are now fortunate in that her work has been recently added to Audible's collection.
This is a charming story, well-timed and well-written with wit and humor. The characters are most engaging, the dialogue is excellent and the narration wonderful.
Some of the so called Regency romances I've listened to lately have been awfully dull with way too many sex scenes, not enough dialogue, modern characters completely out of step with Regency times, and badly in need of a good editor.
Highly recommended.

Historia
A duke must choose wisely.... Leopold Dautry, the notorious Duke of Villiers, must wed quickly and nobly - and his choices, alas, are few. The Duke of Montague's daughter, Eleanor, is exquisitely beautiful and fiercely intelligent. Villiers betroths himself to her without further ado. After all, no other woman really qualifies. Lisette, the outspoken daughter of the Duke of Gilner, cares nothing for clothing or decorum. She's engaged to another man, and doesn't give a fig for status or title.

Duerden's Voice for Villiers is Near Perfection!
Revisado: 01-30-15
Any additional comments?
This is a fantastic final book for the series. Villiers, who has appeared in each book, is absolutely marvelous and the narrator's voice for him is perfection. Elinor is a wonderful character and this listener cheered for her throughout the book. I very much liked the children in the story. They added a lot to the story's depth and substance as did the change in Villiers as he accepts the responsibility of fatherhood. The little pug puppy is a magical character and plays an important role. I would give this more than 5 stars if I could!! Bravo!

Historia
Wedding bells celebrating the arranged marriage between the lovely Duchess of Beaumont and her staid, imperturbable duke had scarcely fallen silent when a shocking discovery sent Jemma running from the ducal mansion. For the next nine years she cavorted abroad, creating one delicious scandal after another (if one is to believe the rumors). Elijah, Duke of Beaumont, did believe those rumors. But the handsome duke needs an heir, so he summons his seductive wife home.

I think the author is a very good writer and very smart woman, however this time I was disappointed in the story especially in the characters Jemma and Elijah. Leopold was a much more exciting and interesting character. The final book in the series, "A Duke of Her Own" is Leopold's story and was a smashing end to the series. I gave that book 5 stars all around.
The narrator delivered another fantastic performance! You can count on Susan Duerden. She is a favorite for sure.

Historia
Harriet, Duchess of Berrow, is tired of her title and the responsibilities that come along with it. Enough with proper tea parties and elegant balls; what Harriet really wants is to attend an outrageous soiree where she can unleash her wildest whims and desires. But to attend such an event - especially if the event in question is Lord Justinian Strange's rollicking fete, filled with noble rogues and rotters, risque - ladies and illicit lovers - would be certain scandal. That's why she must disguise herself.

Excellent writing, good character growth, inclusion of a great cast of children (and puppy), and sublime narration all contribute to the overwhelming success of this audiobook. We meet the Duke in previous books in the series. We may not have liked him then, but here we must love him. I enjoyed this book tremendously! The epilogue was truly a satisfying finish touch. Thank you to the author, the narrator, and Audible.

Historia
It's going to take a Beast to tame this Beauty. The Enigma Earl. The Lord Phantom. That's what the gossip pages call Lord Greenwich, a mysterious nobleman who doesn't show his face in London Society. With a reputation like that, it's no wonder that Lydia Montgomery is horrified to be dragged from bed and packed off to live with him to save her mother from penury. While Lydia has received all of the training a lady should endure, she's decidedly un-ladylike.

Good story idea, but result disappoints
Revisado: 01-23-15
Any additional comments?
Even the excellent narration could not save this book. The author started out with a good idea, but did not, it seems, have the skill to make it really interesting. The earl's mother had more personality and dimension than the main characters. They, unfortunately, were just dull.
