Historia
The winter had begun. At Gunnaring Gap, the valiant Riders of Valon began their charge. And though Challerain Keep lay in ruins and butchery had led to the capture of Princess Laurelin, heroes strode forth from the ranks of Men, Elves, Warrows, and Dwarves to turn the tide of doom. And across the land ruled by unnatural dark, freedom flickered and burst into flame...

Bland and Mediocre Fantasy
Revisado: 05-12-24
Repetitive and laborious writing is mixed with blatantly lifted scenes and ideas from J.R.R. Tolkien. I understand (and support) taking inspiration from Tolkien’s writing and world, but borrowing plot lines and scenes is just going too far. While there are some slightly enjoyable moments from time to time, most of this tale is dry and tedious.

A deeply frustrating reading experience
Revisado: 03-24-24
2.5 stars for the story. There are many good ideas throughout this series, but they are bogged down by far too many one dimensional characters. Also, the fact that Christianity is the primary religion in this fantasy world completely breaks my immersion.

Growth of the Soil, Hamsun's Nobel Prize winning novel, is a classic of Scandinavian literature. The farmer Isak scarcely acknowledges the values of modern living. Illiterate but capable of carrying out the business of running a farm, he has physical strength and works with his hands. Although initially amazed by Isak's prowess - his wife Inger, who came into contact with modern society when imprisoned for killing her infant due to its birth defect, return to the home much less impressed by the country life.
