Plot and characters brilliantly crafted and well read
Revisado: 08-06-23
Leanne Kale Sparks is a writer somewhat newer to this genre and one you will want to read and follow. Her plots and characters are marvelously crafted. Readers will find themselves several times certain that they have solved the mystery only to find that, whoops, that's not the answer. All of the people in her book are fleshed out and interesting.
Her writing style is interspersed with moments of lightness and humor and her female main characters are smart and sassy. Kendall Beck is a lady you will love so much you will wish you could hang out with her. She is a an FBI agent who's mission is to find and protect missing children, only to find her partner's niece is missing and possibly abducted.
While the plot is engaging and intense, Sparks handles the issues of child abduction with care and sensitivity.
This thriller is exciting and will make you ignore your tasks, chores and even your sleep, Leanne Kale Sparks is definitely a thriller author you will want to buy and put on your follow list.

Historia
Mary Karr's biography looks back through a child's eyes to sort through dark household secrets. She witnesses an inheritance squandered, endless bottles emptied, and guns leveled at both the deserving and the undeserving. In a voice stripped of self-pity and charged with brilliant energy, she introduces us to a family ravaged by lies and alcoholism, yet redeemed by the revelation of truth.

Brilliant, luscious writing
Revisado: 08-15-22
Beautiful, rich imagery and characters. This book was recommended to me as an example of a well written memoir. Oh my goodness, what an education! I certainly set the bar high.
Mary Karr leads you into her life and shares the colors, smells and textures of her world. It can be disastrous for a writer to read her own work, but Karr's voice blends perfectly with her writing to become part of the experience of her memoir.
This is definitely an inspiration for my own writing.

For women who feel victimized by men
Revisado: 03-23-22
This is well enough written and performed but I didn't care for the focus. The readers who are into the current victim culture will probably enjoy the story.
"Gutsy young female attorney takes on the bad old boy network."
Even as a woman who has worked for women's rights since the 70's, I found this just too much "poor downtrodden woman against the white male system." While it certainly still happens,
this seemed so over-the-top the story became depressing.
For me, it was a waste of a credit.

Revisado: 06-11-21
It's James Patterson, so, of course the story is going to be a winner. Having Clinton's input adds to the feeling of credibility.
The range of great readers adds even more texture and excitement to the audio experience.

Historia
August 1945. As Stefano, an Italian POW, heads toward home across war-ravaged Germany, he encounters a young child beside his dead mother. Unable to leave him to an unknown fate, Stefano takes the boy with him, finding refuge in a seemingly abandoned house in a secluded woodland. But the house is far from vacant. Stefano wakes at the arrival of its owner, Erich, a former German soldier, who invites the travelers to stay until they can find safe passage home. Stefano cautiously agrees, intrigued by the disarming German, his reclusive neighbor Rosalind, and her traumatized husband.

Superb! Brilliant plot, superior readers
Revisado: 05-18-21
This is a very different look at WWII and its effects on a group of people who survived it.
It is an interesting twist with a view of how the German people experienced it. The characters are full and interesting and the plot has a lot of unexpected turns.
The readers are excellent and bring the story to life .
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical fiction, or who want a more realistic look at the events of that war.

Superb, a powerful story exceptionally well read
Revisado: 06-08-20
Not only is this is a great story with strong characters you will love, but it also imparts important information about a current knotty political and social issue.
I wish anyone who opposes immigration would read this beautifully written book.
The richly developed characters show us the horrors people in some countries still endure and the courage and cost of those who attempt to escape.
Immigration is a complex and difficult issue and Cummings illustrates, in a very powerful and personal way, the human element that too often is overlooked.
