The kind of book you listen to for the joy of it. Light, funny, cozy. I listen to India Holton's novels for comfort and light heartedness, and this one met expectations perfectly. The narrator is excellent too!

An All Time Favorite

Terrible cover, great story. It's light and funny, but surprisingly compelling in its plot. This is one of those stories I turn to when I need something less serious. excellent narration.

Short and Sweet

Interesting but not very believable

The narration is fantastic, and the premise is compelling. I liked the magic system and the theme of feminism... but the FMC is frustratingly selfish and the MMC is too perfect to be believable. I felt that the societal and personal obstacles faced by the characters in this book were solved too abruptly to feel satisfying. I know the FMC was meant to be steadfast in her beliefs, but her unwillingness to compromise or find new solutions just came off as petulant and selfish rather than clever. While I empathized with her struggle, I found the resolution to be unrealistic.

Dark and Dirty

I was surprised by how bold and thrilling this book is, I couldn't put it down. It pushes the boundaries of your typical fantasy romance with high stakes and darkness. If you are easily triggered / sensitive to sex or violence, this book is not for you.

Repulsive

Woman-child in love with her foster Dad is a big NO for me. In addition to being obsessed with her physically and emotionally abusive father figure, she offers her blood to him every night, and he's supposedly a good guy. This story has absolutely nothing to do with Rapunzel.

I could write an essay about all the things wrong with this book, but suffice to say it's very bazaar and confusing and half baked. It's a shame because I think this story had a lot of potential.

Unique story

Pretty good story, frustrating performance. Narrator really struggles with male voices and her pronunciations are distracting. I suggest reading this one instead of listening.

So much potential...

The first half was interesting, especially after being introduced to a seemingly well developed set of characters that have comraderie and witty banter with plenty of action. A few awkward moments and a helpless female main character, but plenty of room for development. Once they reach their destination, it gets cringy. Weird pacing, abrupt and awkward "emotional" moments that miss the mark in their impactfulness, and unnecessary trials to force character development. I really wanted to love this story, but I caught myself rolling my eyes so many times and pausing to escape my own irritation. The narration was excellent, and there were many redeeming qualities, but I wouldn't rank this book among the best. This was a great debut novel, I'm sure we'll see awesome things from this author.

Among the Best in Romantasy

So completely compelling, I couldn't stop listening, and when it was done, I had to read it again. The narrator was okay, she obviously had some kind of sinus infection for the first half, and I found her gulping and awkward pauses to be distracting. But the story was still incredible.
