Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

Better Than I'd Hoped
Revisado: 07-22-22
I've had this book for quite some time but only recently got around to it. I loved the whole thing. It's a whole new take on a well loved story and I was not disappointed. I worried it would be too predictable but even when it was, I fully enjoyed the ride. Bravo to the narrator as well for bringing these characters to life.

So good!
Revisado: 09-28-20
This book turned out to be so much more than I was expecting. Seeing the evolution of both races was beyond fascinating. With the spiders literally evolving into a society and the humans coping with time and it's demands, I just didn't come across any of this story that I thought was boring. I DO NOT like spiders, at all, but I was still rooting for them in the end. Cannot wait to see what book two has in store.

Yes, the narrator has changed, but once I adjusted to hearing things in a slightly different tone I had no qualms. If you enjoyed the other books in this series then this is also a must read (or listen, as the case may be).

Love it!
Revisado: 07-30-19
This is one of my all time favorite books and I was so happy to find it was on audible. I read a lot of negativity on the narrator and I can see where people are coming from in that regard, he definitely adds a bit more of a dramatic flare but overall it didn't stop me from enjoying the ride and it won't stop me from going through the rest of the series. I got used to his inflection over time and very rarely did it pull me from the trance of the story (maybe I just listen to a large variation of narration and so it didn't really get under my skin).
If you are wanting to give this book a go I definitely recommend it and if you are on the fence based on comments about the narration then I say give it a go and judge for yourself.

Great! Except one thing.
Revisado: 07-07-17
This is such a great series so far and the readers do such an amazing job but it was perturbing to know that a 16 year old first instinct when "her man goes off to war" is to make a baby with him. Even though they haven't been together for more than a second. But don't let that stop you from giving it a read! Listen? It's a small part of the story, not much dwelt upon.

Very Enjoyable
Revisado: 04-28-13
What did you love best about Dragon Avenger?
I think my favorite parts were the ones where there was some reference to the first book in the series, I liked feeling Wistala's hope and happiness when she heard any sort of rumor about her brother.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Definitely Wistala. She is so fiery and determined to avenge her family but at the same time she has a good heart (hearts ^_^).
Have you listened to any of David Drummond’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't listened to any of his other readings before but I definitely liked him and would listen to his other works without hesitation. I will admit though that when he went into any sort of battle scene I had a hard time paying full attention (granted, I listen to my audios while I am working) but I am not sure if that is the book or his reading.
Any additional comments?
I read the first book but didn't feel too inclined to read the second. The book was good just not the kind of thing I normally read. The audio was a great way for me to "read" book two, while still reading whatever other book I chose, without losing interest half-way through.

Mostly Loved it
Revisado: 04-28-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would, but only if they refused point blank to read the book, yet would consider the audio version.
What other book might you compare Moon Called to and why?
I really can't compare it to anything because I haven't read anything quite like it. I love this book and this series. I have read them a couple of times each.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed Lorelei's portrayal of Mercy Thompson but I am sad to say that most of the other characters all sounded too much the same. If Adam, Samuel and three other men without accents were in the same room it was really hard to tell which one was speaking until the "Samuel said" or "Adam growled" parts came. I would, however, still listen to the other Mercy audio books. It is a small thing that I can push past. I did find her ability to speak Zee very impressive though. There is random German thrown in and she spoke it very well.

Loved the Book, Loved the Audio
Revisado: 04-28-13
If you could sum up The Name of the Wind in three words, what would they be?
Rhythmic, Detailed (but not annoying so) and Captivating
What did you like best about this story?
I love that this story is plausible but not necessarily possible. Kvothe isn't the perfect hero and his story isn't predictable, which is what makes me love this story the most.
What does Nick Podehl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Simply said, he brings a voice. I have read the book (twice) and I loved it. I was extremely pleased that Nick brought such life and energy to each character and to the entire story itself. The men didn't all sound the same, nor did the women. The characters with accents were very well done and it was easy to distinguish each character from the others. Of all the audio readers I have heard so far (granted, not many) he is my favorite. I would try out a book I had never heard of just based on the fact that Nick was reading.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Every time Kvothe picked up an instrument. It gave me goose bumps and left me feeling some sort of emotional. The beginning and the end of the book were also very captivating. A silence of three parts grabs onto me and makes me pay attention, even if I wasn't before-hand.
Any additional comments?
Patrick Rothfuss has an exceptional way with words. Every word, sentence and paragraph feels as though he put everything he had into them. This is the kind of author one should strive to imitate.
