Good until the last
Revisado: 02-20-18
I don’t know why but all the stories that take place on Haven or between only Havenites are just boring as hell, so I enjoyed all but the last story, especially since all it did was directly quote parts from the novels and add a little bit of detail.

Historia
The Star Kingdom has a new generation of officers! And this elite group hand-picked and trained by Honor Harrington herself is going to be needed immediately, as their first assignment turns out to be more dangerous than anyone expected. What was supposed to be a quiet outpost, far from the blazing conflict between the Star Kingdom of Manticore and the People's Republic of Haven has actually been targeted by an unholy alliance between the slaveholders of Manpower.

Good story, bad narration.
Revisado: 01-23-18
What made the experience of listening to The Shadow of Saganami the most enjoyable?
Making Terakov (sp?) sound like Captain Picard.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Shadow of Saganami?
The [SPOILER] at the end. I teared up at work listening to it.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
HOLY SHIT THE LADY VOICES. KILL THEM WITH FIRE. It's like the narrator was mocking the very idea of women. (The lady voices in Storm from the Shadows are a little less bad.) Other than the lady voices the guy was actually pretty good. And all the Manticorans having British accents, that was weird. I got so used to the main story narrator's way of saying Honorverse-specific things.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It's 31 hours long, so...no.
Any additional comments?
The publisher's summary lies. There's no elite group of midshippeople hand chosen by Honor Harrington, it's just a handful of middies on their "snotty" cruise.

Historia
In a future America strangely altered by genetic modifications, millions of ordinary people are supported by the efforts of handsome and intellectually-superior gene-modified humans. These, in turn, are running scared in the face of the near-superhuman powers of the Sleepless, radically altered humans who have their own agenda for humanity. The Sleepless have withdrawn from the rest of the race to an island retreat, from which they periodically release dazzling scientific advances.

Excellent except for Drew's voice actor. I found his voice grating. I hope Lizzie is in the next book.

BORING.
Revisado: 05-25-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
More explicit sex. Seriously, it's okay to have sex scenes in a story with plot. Also, a lot less politics. So much politics involving people you only know by name.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The talk about this story involved the main character being a true masochist, and the masochism scenes were diappointingly glossed over. I feel like I fell for a con.
What does Anne Flosnik bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her reading was excellent, it was the story that resulted in me not finishing this book.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment!
Any additional comments?
Politics, politics, politics, badly summarized sex scene, more politics.

Nemesis is a Diabolic, a humanoid teenager created to protect a galactic senator's daughter, Sidonia. The two have grown up side by side but are in no way sisters. Nemesis is expected to give her life for Sidonia, and she would do so gladly. She would also take as many lives as necessary to keep Sidonia safe. When the power-mad emperor learns Sidonia's father is participating in a rebellion, he summons Sidonia to the Galactic court. She is to serve as a hostage. Now there is only one way for Nemesis to protect Sidonia. She must become her.

Historia
The People's Republic of Haven made a tiny mistake when it announced the execution of Honor Harrington. It seemed safe enough. After all, she was already dead. Unfortunately, they were wrong. Now Honor has escaped from the prison planet called Hell and returned to the Manticoran Alliance with a few friends. Almost half a million of them, to be precise including some who know what really happened when the Committee of Public Safety seized power in the PRH.

More consequences of stuff that went before
Revisado: 05-02-15
Where does Ashes of Victory rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's a bit slow-moving and really long, but I don't mind that in an audiobook series. It means that the "book funk" from finishing a series and wondering what to tackle next will be farther down the road. Plus I like that actions in previous books have consequences in whichever one I happen to be listening to. I'd say nothing happens in a vacuum, but the series takes place in outer space.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mac, Honor's steward. I'm not sure how the book spells the full name because I've only been listening. He's loyal, snarky, and really cares about Honor, and the moments with them (especially in the earlier books, you hardly hear from him at all at this point) show the all-too-human side of Honor.
Which character – as performed by Allyson Johnson – was your favorite?
Mac again. And McBride. I like their sass and their accents. (Actually, I like the way Allyson Johnson does the accents. It makes the characters that much easier to tell apart.)
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
[SPOILER] The part where Miranda LaFollet was translating for the tree-cat who was signing to Queen Elizabeth and Ariel. Elizabeth's reaction was quite moving.
Any additional comments?
A list of all the books in the Honorverse--not just the main story, but all the side novels and side short stories, in the order in which they should be read, would be most helpful.

This novel also deals with the direct result of past books but it also has more plot movement than the previous one. Also a big space battle with lots of tactics and discussion of tactics.

Historia
Sparked by a controversial debate in February 2014, Bill Nye has set off on an energetic campaign to spread awareness of evolution and the powerful way it shapes our lives. In Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation, he explains why race does not really exist; evaluates the true promise and peril of genetically modified food; reveals how new species are born, in a dog kennel and in a London subway; takes a stroll through 4.5 billion years of time; and explores the new search for alien life, including aliens right here on Earth.

Bill! Bill! Bill!
Revisado: 01-26-15
Would you listen to Undeniable again? Why?
I would listen to Undeniable again, because it's a good book and an interesting listen. (Also I have minor memory issues so if I wait a year or so it'll be almost like listening to it for the first time.)
Who was your favorite character and why?
Young Bill Nye in a gorilla suit.
Which character – as performed by Bill Nye – was your favorite?
The European people he "did voices" to quote in the early chapters.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There weren't any parts to cry over. Many parts made me laugh (especially the times when he said "consider the following!"), and many descriptions of things humanity is doing that are harming the planet and that are unlikely to stop any time soon made me want to pull my hair out in frustration--not at the author, with the author.
Any additional comments?
I would buy this for my creationist relatives if I thought they'd read it. I've been an atheist since I was a child and an evolutionist since I learned what it meant, so this book was, to me, preaching to the choir (if you'll pardon the phrase). Basically what I wanted from this book was information about evolution in clear layman's terms that I could use to explain this stuff to others (because I'm just not a natural teacher), and I got not just that but a good deal of information that was new to me.
