Doesn’t over explain. You just live along the character as her world is destroyed
Revisado: 01-14-24
Subtle and well paced. Devastating circumstances after a country turns to fascism. Mostly the mother’s perspective and her helplessness in saving her family. Slow erosion of civilization.

Historia
In this moving sequel to Big Rock Candy Mountain, Bruce Mason returns to Salt Lake City, not for his aunt's funeral but to encounter after 45 years the place he fled in bitterness. Real dialogue flows from real characters. pensive and foreboding Bruce Mason visits his past. A reader does an excellent job with all of the characters.

Historia
It’s spring in the tiny town of Damariscotta, a tourist haven on the coast of Maine known for its oysters and antiques. Andrew, a high school English teacher recently returned to the area, has brought his family to Ed and Steph Thatch’s sprawling riverside estate to attend a reception for the Amherst women’s lacrosse team. Back when they were all teenagers, Andrew never could have predicted that Ed, descended from a long line of lobstermen, or Steph, a decent student until she dropped out to start a family, would ever send a daughter to a place like Amherst.

Historia
A deeply personal work about identity and belonging in a nation coming apart at the seams, Homeland Elegies blends fact and fiction to tell an epic story of longing and dispossession in the world that 9/11 made. Part family drama, part social essay, part picaresque novel, at its heart it is the story of a father, a son, and the country they both call home.

Forrest Gump redux
Revisado: 03-03-21
Ayad shows up in many critical times teaching us about ourselves and our country. He makes himself knowable and sympathetic. Glad I took the time. Excellent story and read well with him portraying his father in an unforgettable fashion.
