Subtle and well paced. Devastating circumstances after a country turns to fascism. Mostly the mother’s perspective and her helplessness in saving her family. Slow erosion of civilization.

Narrator author character delivers an intriguing story while playing a small part on it. Other main character wants it all for his wife but pays the ultimate price. Spent the weekend and driving and this my was my steadfast companion.

Forrest Gump redux

Ayad shows up in many critical times teaching us about ourselves and our country. He makes himself knowable and sympathetic. Glad I took the time. Excellent story and read well with him portraying his father in an unforgettable fashion.
