Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Not so invisible
Revisado: 02-12-25
While an important novel and commentary of its time I didn’t feel the case was made for our hero’s invisibility. Chapter after chapter he was quite visible. The author apparently didn’t believe it either as he felt the need to write an epilogue to further build the case. Yes, it’s true that to the other characters he may not have been seen as a person with hopes and dreams but are any of us naturally seen that way by anyone outside of our mothers? Most of us are seen by those we meet as a tool or talent base, what we can do for them. It is only after we make ourselves known to others that they really see us.
