What is autism: a devastating developmental condition, a lifelong disability, or a naturally occurring form of cognitive difference akin to certain forms of genius? In truth it is all of these things and more - and the future of our society depends on our understanding it.

Comprehensive history of autism
Revisado: 01-20-24
The narrator is pleasant to listen to and the book is a detailed account of autism’s history and in my view as an adult late diagnosed as on the spectrum, a book that everyone who takes part in autism whether it be as clinician, parent, autistic, or researcher, should read.

Historia
Esme is born into a world of words. Motherless and irrepressibly curious, Esme spends her childhood in the Scriptorium, a garden shed in Oxford where her father and a team of lexicographers are gathering words for the very first Oxford English Dictionary. Esme's place is beneath the sorting table, unseen and unheard. One day, she sees a slip containing the word bondmaid flutter to the floor unclaimed. Esme seizes the word and hides it in an old wooden trunk that belongs to her friend, Lizzie, a young servant in the big house.

I now understand the value of including fictional books in my reading plan
Revisado: 12-24-23
This book was suggested by a book club, so I gave it a go even though I don’t usually listen to fiction. That is now changed. I enjoyed the story so much and time flew when I was listening to it. Thank you to the author for a deeply touching book that has forever changed how I view words.

Historia
We all have a voice in our head. We tune into its endless chatter to look for guidance, ideas and wisdom. Except sometimes, this voice leads us down a rabbit hole of negative self-talk and endless rumination. These silent conversations are so powerful they can sink our mood, trip us up and even impact our health. How can we take back control? This is the question award-winning psychologist Ethan Kross set out to answer 20 years ago when he began an audacious mission - to study the conversations we have with ourselves.

This book has changed my life.
Revisado: 11-18-23
The insights into how to manage chatter have been life saving for me as someone who is constantly in her head, thinking about everything all the time. I have already shared the techniques with friends and family and I think this is one of those books that need to become a class or course that everyone is exposed to, preferably as soon as possible, not late into adult life only. Thank you Ethan for writing all of the research down in a book accessible to everyone.

Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians provides access into an underrepresented and misunderstood community and will change the way listeners think about transgender people, faith, and the future of Christianity. By introducing transgender issues and language and providing stories of both biblical characters and real-life narratives from transgender Christians living today, Hartke helps listeners visualize a more inclusive Christianity, equipping them with the confidence and tools to change both the church and the world.

I am changed
Revisado: 07-02-23
I found this book shortly after deciding that it’s time that I start figuring out how I feel about trans people as a cisgender heterosexual Christian. I knew from spending time with lgbtq+ people that I could not just accept the view that being queer is wrong and not allowed for Christians but I didn’t know why I felt this way or how to formulate my beliefs around what I knew to be the truth: God is for everyone, just as they are. This book had me in tears a few times, and I am changed on the inside. I believe that the church is not just supposed to be open to trans people but should actually be a safe space for them where they can be supported as they journey with God and become their true selves. Thank you Austen, and all the people behind the stories in this book.
