Enjoyable heartbreak
Revisado: 04-20-09
I seem to be the king of picking depressing books, but although this one was pretty depressing, I enjoyed it. Rather than roll my eyes at the characters, I wanted to get in there and strangle someone! The situations were so bizarre they actually made sense. It was gut-wrenching, all the same.

Interesting, but not earth shattering
Revisado: 04-20-09
Interesting book, descriptive. I wanted to listen to it before seeing the movie, but now that I've read it, I have no desire to view it! I just felt flat when it was finished.

Still Not Sure
Revisado: 04-20-09
I haven't really made up my mind as to how I feel about this book. It really dragged in some parts, but was interesting enough to keep going on. I guess I expected too much of the characters, and I kept waiting for them to develop more, but they never did (to me, anyway). There were too many loose ends for me to enjoy it thoroughly, but I'm glad I listened to it. But it's a one-time listen, in my opinion.

Loved it!
Revisado: 04-07-09
I loved listening to this book. It would have been difficult to read it (for me) because of the french, but listening to it was like music. This is my favorite Chevalier book so far. I enjoy her descriptive story-telling, makes you feel like you're right there with the characters.

Dark listen, but good
Revisado: 02-09-09
I like Toni Morrison, so I'm not bothered by the dark tone her books take, or the inferences. I listened to this particular book in one sitting, and it made me want to go back and listen to it again, just to make sure I got it right. Heart-wrenching. Her characters are very human, very flawed, and they touch the dark places in all of us.

Kept waiting for more
Revisado: 01-25-09
I kept thinking there had to be more to this book. The descriptions of the river were picturesque, but the story was so predictable. Bleh. I can't believe I listened to the entire thing, but I was so sure it would get better. Reminded me of those Danielle Steele books I read as a teenager.

Thoroughly Enjoyable
Revisado: 06-10-08
This was recommended to me through a group on ravelry.com. Knitters tend to know good audio books, and they were right on with this one. I was surprised and pleased when the story turned from modern day back to the origins of the drum. I felt the characters were very real, with all their flaws, and yet remarkable because of them. They came across as every day people - neighbors, acquaintances, friends. This is a great read (listen!)

Frustrating!
Revisado: 06-09-08
Arrgghh! This book went on and on! I enjoyed some parts of it, but talk about beating a dead horse. We end up knowing more about Martha than we ever care to, and then - poof - well, I won't give it away. It started off well, then went on and on and on, then it ended. Just ended.

Kept Waiting for Something To Happen!
Revisado: 06-09-08
I liked this book, and the characters, but I kept waiting for everything to come together. I admit - I can be obtuse, but it all seemed so vague. There were connections, but they all seemed so loose and out there. I enjoyed the characters, and the premise of the book, but it left me wondering what was missing.

Historia
Diana Gabaldon's fans will be delighted to find Jamie and Claire as spirited and endearing as ever in this fourth installment of this magnificent saga. Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

Always a Favorite
Revisado: 06-09-08
I think you either love this series or hate it. I do love it, but let's face it, it feels like it goes on forever! Some people like all the history, but I still can't get it all straight. I think it's because you tend to start drifting off after the first few hours! But still one of my favorite book series of all times.
