Discover a faster and more reliable way to pray. A few believe they need to be religious to pray. In order to reach that comfort and ease, you would need to set aside a large amount of time praying. But you may not want to wait years to become comfortable with prayers. And you probably don’t have the extensive Christian background to draw on. Does that mean you’re destined to keep your desire to learn how to pray just a desire? If you make the right choices today, you won’t have to wait decades to become very comfortable with praying.

Poetic prayers
Revisado: 06-05-21
This is a great reference for poetic, sincere prayer options when you're experiencing strong emotions and can't find the words to pray. It is organized by needs and emotions. While you may not need all the sections, I found the prayers for the emotion I was feeling at the time of my listen very well suited for what I felt.

Perfection!
Revisado: 05-21-21
I've read over a dozen of Ken Follett's books and this is by far the best one. It has the familiar "good guys" vs incredibly malicious "bad guys" set up, with characters similar to Merthin and Caris from his older novels about Kingsbridge. The period is different, so there are new backgrounds and customs to learn about. I looked forward to my time with this book every day and was sad to finish. The ending was extremely gratifying as well.

Historia
With ravishing beauty and unsettling intelligence, Michael Ondaatje's Booker Prize-winning novel traces the intersection of four damaged lives in an Italian villa at the end of World War II. Hana, the exhausted nurse; the maimed thief, Caravaggio; the wary sapper, Kip: each is haunted by the riddle of the English patient, the nameless, burned man who lies in an upstairs room and whose memories of passion, betrayal, and rescue illuminate this book like flashes of heat lightning.

Not very good. Thankful for the movie
Revisado: 09-09-19
This book was not very well done. The story was as articulate as drugged patient weaving in and out of his memories. Maybe that was the point. The movie really mined the gems out of this book, so just watch that and don't waste your time here.

Forgettable read
Revisado: 12-09-15
What did you like best about When the Lion Feeds? What did you like least?
An easy read unlike most period pieces. I felt the writer communicated a lot of his knowledge of the people of that time; lifestyle, orientation, events etc. rather than telling us an interesting story. Over the days I listened to this book, I frequently forgot what I was about to here each time I restarted on my phone. John Lee is my favorite narrator. As always his performance was stellar. I almost feel I might have given up without him
Would you ever listen to anything by Wilbur Smith again?
Yes
Have you listened to any of John Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. Great performance from John Lee as always.
Was When the Lion Feeds worth the listening time?
No

Instant HBO hit
Revisado: 11-02-15
What did you love best about Golden Lion?
Great story...never a dull moment. Lots of twists; very suspenseful. Wonderful characters you can relate to; even in strange places. The narration was so vivid, I could almost cast the characters in my head for an HBO series. I hope they pick up this book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Hal Courtney. He was simply a good man...uncomplicated.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Hal's sailors rescued him from the mine fort.
Who was the most memorable character of Golden Lion and why?
Judith Nazeth. The idea of a capable female heroine in those times is very appealing.

Historia
It's a summer's evening in Amsterdam, and two couples meet at a fashionable restaurant for dinner. Between mouthfuls of food and over the polite scrapings of cutlery, the conversation remains a gentle hum of polite discourse - the banality of work, the triviality of the holidays. But behind the empty words, terrible things need to be said, and with every forced smile and every new course, the knives are being sharpened. Each couple has a 15-year-old son. The two boys are united by their accountability for a single horrific act; an act that has triggered a police investigation and shattered the comfortable, insulated worlds of their families.

Historia
Anthony Powell's universally acclaimed epic encompasses a four-volume panorama of twentieth century London. Hailed by Time as "brilliant literary comedy as well as a brilliant sketch of the times," A Dance to the Music of Time opens just after World War I. Amid the fever of the 1920s and the first chill of the 1930s, Nick Jenkins and his friends confront sex, society, business, and art.

Probably the most boring book I've ever read
Revisado: 10-18-12
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
People who like traditional British understatement and detachment.
What was most disappointing about Anthony Powell’s story?
I can't think of one single exciting incident the main character experienced. He sounded like wallpaper. While the background could potentially provide some interesting characters and stories, the main character appears to be detached from everything and everyone - so the characters are not really developed. Perhaps with the same backdrop the story/plots could have been developed better and made more interesting with a more animated author.
Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Simon Vance is excellent here as always. I imagine I completed the book because of my previous good experiences with him. Alas the book did not pick up.
What character would you cut from A Dance to the Music of Time: First Movement?
The main character, Nick Jenkins. His detachment (since he's the one telling the story)blunted my appreciation of the potentially more interesting lives of others around him.
Any additional comments?
Please take down the first 2 -3 comments. Completely misleading. I bought the book because of them and I feel misled.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. Long winded medieval "Lifetime" series
Revisado: 05-09-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I quite regretted buying this book for a number of reasons.
1) I have never quite been so furious with a character as I was with the heroine of this book. The heroine was the stereotype of the unreasonable, hysterical haridan who apparently is incapable of thinking properly. She is so stupid, its hard to believe that this book was written by a woman....it reads like it was written by some crusty old guy in the 1950s with a very low opinion of women's mental capacity :-)
2) For a romance novel, the romantic scenes were written quite prudishly....or maybe just written fifty years ago? Here's an example of how a romantic scene plays out..."he grabbed my hand and everything melted away...... Chapter 10". lol
3) There was an echo in the studio where the narrator read the book. It sounds like you're on the phone with a call center.
One good thing though....the narrator was absolutely outstanding. She read in the proper accents, kept the voices/characters consistent and added very natural inflections to the reading. Also, the book appears to have been very well researched. There was a lot of detail about medieval Scotland.
If you’ve listened to books by Diana Gabaldon before, how does this one compare?
My first Gabaldon book.....probably wouldn't be reading her again.
What three words best describe Davina Porter’s performance?
Outstanding work.
Do you think Outlander needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Not really
