Historia
Almost 175 years have passed since the Communist Manifesto was written and circulated by Marx and Engels. Some statistics point to it being one of the most widely read and distributed works of political science and economics, despite the core ideology that has led to hundreds of millions of murders worldwide at the hands of those who fervently "believed" and "reformed" society by its decrees. It's about time something was written to help challenge and potentially unwind some of the moral, intellectual, social, and economic damage done since.

Authors reading different book
Revisado: 11-20-22
I agree with the sentiments by the authors but listening to them speak while reading the book there are many differences between the two. I would guess that the Audiobook version is the most recent. Some confusion naturally results.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Historia
The Second World Wars examines how combat unfolded in the air, at sea, and on land to show how distinct conflicts among disparate combatants coalesced into one interconnected global war. Drawing on 3,000 years of military history, Victor Davis Hanson argues that despite its novel industrial barbarity, neither the war's origins nor its geography were unusual. Nor was its ultimate outcome surprising. The Axis powers were well prepared to win limited border conflicts, but once they blundered into global war, they had no hope of victory.

In the wake of a humbling incident aboard a canal boat in the Cotswolds, young Captain Horatio Hornblower arrives in London to take command of the Atropos, a 22-gun sloop barely large enough to require a captain. Her first assignment under Hornblower's command is as flagship for the funeral procession of Lord Nelson. Soon Atropos is part of the Mediterranean Fleet's harassment of Napoleon, recovering treasure that lies deep in Turkish waters

Story often moved slowly, narration languid
Revisado: 11-05-18
The first chapters drug along interminably, painfully describing Hornblower's domestic circumstances and his hidden doubts about about the wisdom of his choice of wife. The story suffered from the narration that sounded like William F. Buckley reading a fairy tale to a grandchild. There were some suspenseful passages and some good action parts, but all were hurt by the somnolent narration. I will continue with the written versions of the Hornblower series if narrated by the same person.

Historia
The White House is the home of the president of the United States, the most guarded, monitored, closely watched person in the world. So how could a US president vanish without a trace? And why would he choose to do so? An unprecedented collaboration between President Bill Clinton and the world's best-selling novelist, James Patterson, The President Is Missing is a breathtaking story from the pinnacle of power.

Preachy and self-aggrandizing pap
Revisado: 10-19-18
Randy Quaid's voice was all wrong. The story line was pathetic and there were sections throughout that we're self-serving and tiresome. The closing speech was a sermon of liberal talking points. It was hard to listen to the end.

Over the past decade, A Patriot's History of the United States has become the definitive conservative history of our country, correcting the biases of historians and other intellectuals who downplay the greatness of America's patriots. Professors Schweikart and Allen have now revised, updated, and expanded their book, which covers America's long history with an appreciation for the values that made this nation uniquely successful.

Revisado: 09-13-16
I liked the audio book version as a way to get a fresh view of history from a patriotic perspective while staying in shape. I'm 70 years old and learned many new things about the motivations behind the historical actions and surprising facts about many historic figures. I will probably listen again.

A classic that was worth a listen
Revisado: 02-23-16
I knew a bit about the Civil War and saw the movie many years ago. The book was much longer and developing the characters took up a large portion of the story. Scarlett's character got the most attention of course. For me, the narrative of Scarlett's every thought became tiring and her thought processes were incredible to behold. My wife explained that the book's portrayal of Scarlett's thoughts was pretty close to an accurate picture of how women think. Rhett Butler was interesting but also hard to fathom. The two together presented an infuriating picture of two people that just couldn't be honest and continually made bad decisions based on greed and obstinacy. The backdrop of Southern society and the culture of the period was fascinating. The book gave a far different picture of slavery than is normally painted in current history and literature. The portrayal of the Reconstruction from the position of the losing side was very instructive and helps inform the attitude of the South even today. Overall I thought the book a necessary part of my literary resume. As with many of the classics the cost of the audiobook is quite reasonable.
