Historia
As the ancient tradition of Bingtown's Old Traders slowly erodes under the cold new order of a corrupt ruler, the Vestrits anxiously await the return of their liveship - a rare magic ship carved from sentient wizardwood, which bonds the ships mystically with those who sail them. And Althea Vestrit waits even more avidly, living only to reclaim the ship as her lost inheritance and captain her on the high seas. But the Vivacia has been seized by the ruthless pirate captain Kennit, who holds Althea's nephew and his father hostage.

Unresolved rape content in most Robin Hobb books
Revisado: 01-28-21
Great story and great narration. There has been a few instances of rape that nothing comes of it. It is treated as a way of life. Can't agree with rape culture so I returned it.

Book of bad monologues
Revisado: 12-15-17
Most of the book is whiny monologues. Several times the characters spent a long time arguing about not having time to explain. When there is action, it is only described as being indescribable. Then the character has to explain to another how it's indescribable. I am done with this series.

Started more problems than solved
Revisado: 01-03-17
The first three books did not have an ending but just stopped. Was hoping this book would wrap it up. Instead opened more questions that make the rest of the series seem insignificant. This book and series would have been great if condensed into a single prequel that introduces what the world looks like after this series. The book and series itself leaves too much to be desired and the writer really needs to work on writing plots.
The characters were great. The bad guy was believable and the side characters were fun and made the story interesting. The Amy Landon did a great job in being clear and changing the voices according to character.

Slow and boring
Revisado: 12-19-16
All the characters were hard to connect with. They were all very uncaring and selfish. This is part of the story, but it is hard to get in a book were you don't like any of its characters. It is also clear the main character is being brainwashed and manipulated on multiple accounts. That is the entirety of the story. This is more of a preface than a real story and that really bothers me. The entire book I am expecting it to go into a creepy Utopia and it just drones on. Add that with the calm tones of Dion Graham and it really puts me to sleep. He did a great narration, but was a bad fit for this book.

Story and perfermer was monotone
Revisado: 10-24-16
The story felt like it never starter. Seems like this entire book would be a great set up for the rest of the books but on it's own was just plain slow. The performer was monotone so it all seemed to drone on.

Many unrealistic characters and unfocused plots
Revisado: 06-04-16
The entire group of Others befriended the main character because she delivered the mail while being nice. She was often nice simply because she was to naive to be afraid. If something that simple could change a community to like some humans then there would not be the uncontrollable amount of tension between the groups in the first place. Add in characters come in and out to solve other plots that are barely discussed and you have characters you don't care about solving problems you didn't know much about. The one character that was meant to pull at your emotions turned really whiny so he became annoying. That could be because of the performer.
Many books are awesome because of the characters but this one lame because of them.

Strong female lead and good story
Revisado: 01-18-16
The story had some holes but was over all a great read. The performance could have been better. She was not able to do more than a couple different voices so the dialog could have been stronger. The main character is a strong female lead that is easy to root for with witty one liners.

Historia
You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

Fell flat
Revisado: 11-19-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this book because the short stories were not satisfying. A few of them I could not finish. Some of them seemed like it needed a better introduction so I had no idea what was going on. Have read most of these authors and they are great at novels but seem to be bad at short stories.
